Wheels Turning At DAVE-FM?

I had someone from DAVE-FM call me to say there were big changes coming. This source (who works there) could not say anymore than that.

Start digging, folks.

Yeah, I read somewhere they hired a new morning guy. And they changed some of the music. Maybe Dave is getting a new name... how about Mildred FM? Or Corky or Mookie? How about 92.9, The Cupcake? :)

I hope they bring back a Rock with Attitude station. Zakk's background is from a harder rock station than the sissified Dave FM. It would make more sense to go after the top under-served audience at the moment then their narrow niche. You have the Project doing something though I am still not sure. The mix is very skewed with a younger audience then they throwing something ion from Dark Side? River is so stale with their playlist that some people just need to change the channel to break out of their monotonous life.

Stale with their playlist from a radio person's point of view. Ratings would indicate the audience doesn't agree.

Ya know I have been posting on here for a while and am so tired of trying to wish for better radio in Atlanta. I remember growing up listening to WLS, WLAC, WQXI etc, etc. Of course all of these were on AM. Atlanta radio has really hit the lowest of the low in my lifetime. It just plain sucks. Why can't a pd HAVE SOME BALLS to go against the grain and do something that us "oldtimers" recognize????????????????

The best station around in the South right now is 101.1 WYDE in Cullman/Bham, I would give anything if "Z93" would do something like this. But, I am sure I am just wishing. Even Macon, Augusta, Chattanooga, Columbus, Savannah has better choices that the number 8 market!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amen.

Too many times, you read how "(station) is the worst station in the world"-type hysteria about stations who are quite successful.

Totally disagree with all you nay-sayers. Margot Smith has been doing a great job adding tunes that should have been part of the music mix since day one. It sounds fresher with fewer repeats and more artists, the way a true AAA is supposed to sound.

The big change is a new morning man. WLUP-FM, Chicago refugee Zakk Tyler, if that's his real name, word on the street says no, takes over soon.

Is B98.5 the closest station to WYDE in this market? (I don't listen to WSB-FM very much because I'm streaming WYDE ;D or KRTH when I'm in that mood.)

I agree that the music on DAVE is getting better.
If you have a HD radio you should check out "DAVE ROOTS" on 92.9 HD2. It is really tasty....Margot has done a great job with the music( It is Americana.) I understand the streaming will start sometime next year.
It's about time someone had the gonads to put something(anything)different on the HD channels. Now you have a real reason to buy an HD radio!
How 'bout a blues channel? A Bluegrass channel?

Sorry Neil... Dave is gone. Stupid concept for a station anyway. Let's name the station after a guy. Just an average guy....like.... Dave, Jack, Bob, and the other dumb names for this narrowly targeted format.

I'm sure Michelle and others believed it would be the next BIG thing but it just wasn't. Much like FreeFm.... it looked good on paper but didn't translate to ratings.
And in the end folks...it's ALL about the ratings. Ratings brings revenue.
Yes, stations can make money on mediocre ratings but when there is a hole as big as the Grand Canyon for Classic Rock, you must fill that hole. People want a piece of the River. Execs see those 4 shares the River is spitting out and think they can piece of that pie. Plus, the classic rock listener is the money demo now.

War Z93!

Btw - LOVE Margot! She does a fantastic job with what she does. She needs to program a channel on one of the satellite companies...

How about XM or Sirius. Much better than HD.

Okay, I just checked out the WYDE stream and I heard Duran Duran, Pop Music and Belinda Carlisle... and ran screaming from the room. Is there something particularly innovative about this that I'm not getting?
Dave, or whatever they want to call it, has the best and widest music mix in Atlanta and two of the most engaging personalities in Margot and Mara. In my opinion anyway, there's not that much that needs fixing except the morning show and maybe the marketing. They could lose the football for all I care. But then I'm just one guy... just like the rest of you... with tastes and preferences that don't necessarily mirror those of everyone else on the planet. Most of us have a tendency to believe that the stuff we grew up with is better than what we have now. My dad thought the same thing.

It already does, for about an hour. It's called "Retro in the Metro." Same stuff. Some people like it, and some people run screaming from the room.
