When AM Regional Daytimers Were the Rule

The Hudson Valley in the late 60's had a big ice storm. The FCC allowed two daytime only AMs to stay on pass local sunset to help in health and welfare items for the local communities. WGNY 1220KHz Newburgh and WWLE 1170KHz Cornwall (both at the time directional day-timers) were on for a few hours after local sunset. WGNY's signal did a good job of covering over Cleveland's WGAR 50KW signal. WWLE's signal did an OK job covering over Wheeling's 50KW WWVA.

That Ice Storm gave us a good idea that directional regional channels could co-channel with 50KW power houses at night.
