When Are Hip Hop PDs Going to get the point!?!

I know that this question might seem redundant, but when are Hip Hop Station PDs going to stop Hiring Personalities and limiting there creativity. "Read the liner card and shut the F up or limit your breaks to 10 seconds" is what they say. don't they realize people listen to the radio to be entertained, and that entertainment does not come from the same crappy song about drinking or killing they have heard 30X times already in that 24 hour period. People listen to your personality's show for them, if they feel like that jock has nothing reliant to say besides, Hot this, Jamz that, or we are giving away R. Kelly Tix then click guess what they will change to your competitor or turn you off entirely. haven't you figured out, that a key to radio is brand loyalty. do something out there, dare to be remarkable, have people saying, did you hear what the hell this guy said last night, People have Brand loyalty to Tom Joyner, Ope & Ant, Michael Baisden, Imus, Wendy Williams, Vaughn Harper, But then as soon as the local DJ so and so come on after, the audience is like aaahhhhh why not brand the whole station?

my second point is they not only limit the creativity but they will hire jocks that know nothing about the music, they may have been raised out in westbumbaville somewhere so what does that say to your audience, it says that you know nothing and you really don't care about the music. So once again it goes back to people tuning out, so when ratings drop and deejays get fired because they are not bringing in the listeners despite the fact that it was YOU that told them to not be so creative or imaginative in the first place who do you really blame. Who do you
think management will point the finger at. I cant speak for the West or the south But all over the Northeast Hip Hop Radio ratings are starting to creep closer to the cellar so when the start flipping formats and your job is on the line and butt is in a sling, what will you do MR. Program Director? ??? When i was an intern, I was told by a PD that Radios biggest Competition was television, that is very true, however TV writers and producers have giant brainstorming session where they come up with Ideas to keep us entertained and watching, would it be fair to say that PD's and Jocks could have more of these development sessions to keep people listening instead of a Hip Hop PD playing solitaire on the computer in his office all day? I dont know maybe I'm wrong let me know what you think?

That's like writing a song that sounds like it came from 1992.

People no longer listen to the radio to see if Mr. Johnson bought a new car. They want to hear 50 Cent blasted through their eardrums.

Face it. Hip-hop is dying a slow death. In all genres' of music..is this the best and most popular? Maybe at one time, but rap is crap is true.
Junk..glad to see it slip to minimal ratings.

oh, just my opinion of course!

All the Haters , said that , Back in the late 70's , when rap music, blast off .

Where do I start. IMO, most CHR/Rythmic stations that claim they're "#1 for Hip-Hop" or "Hits and Hip-Hop" are the stations that make hip-hop sound like crap these days. Most Rhythmic stations were your "Hit Music Station" a couple years ago and are now trying to be aprt of the Hip-Hop game and compete with the Urban station across town. Who wants to hear the same songs up to 100 spins a week not to mention throwbacks like Freaknasty "Dip" or Ice Cube "Put Yo Back Into It?"

The listeners that are keeping my station top 3 in women 18-34 and top 5 in persons 25-54 adults do. ;D

Don't get yourself TOO dilusional about this. Listeners come to the radio for music (talk radio and mornings are the exception). Do they like to be entertained and want someone there that can tie all of the service elements together? Yes.

However, we missed an important part of the equation. We STOPPED ENTERTAINING THEM. We beat our chests and talk about how great we are. They don't care.

The biggest issue is that there are people on the air that are barely JOCKS, much less "personalities". They're being told to STFU because they *gasp* have nothing compelling to say. Find your nearest perceptual or even listener-on-the-street and ask them to name a "personality" on the radio station after 10am. They can't.

There ARE exceptions, but very few.

That is why I am saying PDs and Jocks need to have brainstorming sessions to give to come up with entertaining things to do and say. what do you guys think about that, is it realistic? ;)

Actually the Ice cube track is Called "you can do it" And I still like to hear that one. I wish it would get more throwbacks in Urban(Since there are no chr/r where I live at)
