When Citadel takes over WKHX, WYAY

Since both of them are country stations, despite different playlists, I wonder if Citadel will have plans for one of them. I'm thinking Eagle in particular, since it's the lesser performer with a massive Class C signal.

It would make a LOT of sense for WYAY to fill the Oldies format void here in the Atlanta area. They could move Rhubarb and Dallas over to 101.5 and merge the Classic Country on 106.7 with the New country on 101.5.

That would be a dangerous move on their part. WKHX has had Eagle/y106 as a flanker(or should I call it an "antiflanker??) for years. If they gave that up there would be country competition the next day.....from another company(meaning the competition would be a little more "aggressive")!
And KHX is ripe for the picking! It is an especially weak station....Caddy might be a great guy and a great afternoon driver....but he ain't morning show material. The other dayparts are weak, as well. Ruhbarb is the ONLY strong part of the whole operation.
And why oldies?? It's a dying demo.....why do you think Cox gave it up? Bob Neil may be lot's of bad things....but stupid is not one of them. If there was money in the demo we would already be doo-whopin'!!

Why would there be competition the very next day if WYAY or WKHX were flipped? It doens't make any sense to me. I know there are two major Country stations as of this minute but wherever you are in Metro Atlanta you already have access to at least one other station from the fringe of the area. thus the market is saturated so that another one is not needed.

And yes Oldies is a dying demo. Of course the people in charge of the format ran it into the ground, They should have kept spinning currents with the Gold. Let me explain. Back in the 80's Oldies stations across the country, like WCBS in New York were spinning Currents that sounded like the Gold (Billy Joel, Stray Cats, Huey Lewis and The News, etc) for some reason they dropped it. When that practice was stopped the fate of the format was sealed with eventual doom the result. If younger demos could realize the importance of the Oldies to what they like now do you think they might actually listen and give some respect to the music that started it all? I surely think so. And younger demos = more advertising dollars. Ca-Ching! But I don't know anything because I am an outsider. Just thought you'd be interested in my opinion.

Yeah...its sucks being a perrenial top 5 radio station behind monster WSB and Urban V. Sometimes 3rd or 4th depending on the book. I feel for them

There's several things you're overlooking here.
1) The fringe stations face several challenges, not the least of which is the heavy commuter nature of the market. A lot of the rim shots are indeed available to listeners when they leave home but not by the time they arrive at their office. A full market coverage signal would be a more challenging proposition for Kicks to fend off.
2) Currently the only way to reach the country audience marketwide is by buying Kicks/Eagle. There are plenty of national buys that are required to have a country component in their media schedule. A door opens for a new country station that is aggressively priced with full market coverage, as there's no shortage of buyers who would love to have an option & escape some of the prices that Kicks has charged over the past few years. (We can be a punitive bunch when the mood strikes us). For many of those buyers the fringe stations you mentioned aren't an option because clients won't accept/take a dim view of stations without full market coverage.

If younger demos could realize the importance of the Oldies to what they like now do you think they might actually listen and give some respect to the music that started it all? I surely think so.

And just as surely I believe you're being waaaaay too optimistic about the flexibility of those younger demos & their listening habits.
