When Dallas Rocked

The new film "When Dallas Rocked" is all about radio, records, and the musicians that shaped the Dallas rock scene in the 1970's. KZEW-The ZOO is featured in this fun film, and as founding PD of The ZOO I was pleased to be able to contribute my commentary on those exciting times. The premiere was completely sold out, but there will be two additional showings this Saturday and Sunday October 12 & 13 at the Texas Theatre in Oak Cliff at 3 PM.
If you were around during those great years I think you'll really enjoy the film.

I hope they release it on DVD eventually. I remember waiting anxiously in Midland for the pathetic 97.9 in Odessa to shut down for the night, when a big antenna and good tuner allowed me to get KZEW. All of the Dallas greats were receivable with the setup - KNUS, KAFM, etc. Some like KAFM had challenges with a first adjacent 92.3 in Midland, but the tuner was good enough to separate them out. Special mention goes to KERA FM, with its international rock show, and heavy soul and mellow jazz. Great era in Dallas radio, never to be equaled again.
