When did 1550 flip?

Not that half of people in the radio business have even heard of 1550, but when did Lifestyle Radio Net take over? I thought the old garbage was still on on the 1st, but now Bruce Williams is on.

Gees, to think a bunch of us on this board could have pooled our piggybanks and bought the station. Yikes! :D

My point exactly. High dial position, low nighttime power, and no established format history.

I say hire a quality consulting engineer to research a frequency move or an upgrade. If Bob Stevens can make his 620 go from a complicated directional 2500/500 to a non-directional 5500/50, there should also be possibilities for this station.

Of course, this means spending money...and not many AM's have this luxury these days.

You could probably do it for a couple hundred grand, no? The last owner would have been a bit better fit for such... but only marginally. I doubt the new regime could care less whether it's 500w or 50kW, as long as it's "Pittsburgh". Do they even have 2 people at the studio?

BTR/LTRN has been buying some more stations as of late. There was a discussion on the Tampa board about an even lower profile network owning stations in the middle of nowhere, like Delta, UT, to clear their stuff (almost) 24/7. For the price 1550 went for, it would seem to be a pretty decent strategy. For less than the price of a mediocre house, you can have a top-25 market station to sell your national spots on, with no preemptions. With 12 network :30s in a typical hour, M-F 6a-7p only, works out to something like $6.25 a spot to make your money back in the first year.
