When did KOLA 99.9 switch from top 40 to oldies?

I was wanting to know when did KOLA 99.9 switch from top 40 as "Triple 9 FM" to their current oldies format? Although the aircheck that they posted recently was from 1988 when they were a top 40 station, but when I first came through San Bernardino in 1993, KOLA was starting their oldies format. So I would be guessing sometime in the early 90's, I believe. But I don't know when the switch happened. Could you find out for me?Thanks.

I don't know the answer, but I do recall the mid 1970s when I was home sick in junior high I was listening to KOLA and heard "The Night Chicago Died" sixteen times in a row. The system got stuck, I guess.

Now, why did I listen to the song sixteen times in a row? THe world may never know.

I think they were top 40 up till 1988. I remember trying to pick it up in Yorba Linda but I could barely get a signal versus 99.1 KGGI. Then I moved to Corona in late 1989 and by then it was Oldies. They had a satellite format and called it "Kool Gold 99.9". 103.9 from Lake Arrowhead was also oldies at the time, called KBON. And I could pick up KDES 104.7 Palm Springs in Corona and they had a format that was Oldies and current hits.

They were still Top 40 in the summer of 1989, according to the Riverside ratings I'm looking at.

Ok...then it must be late 1989 that they flipped. I moved to Corona in december from yorba linda and the first thing I did, being a radio geek, was check out what radio stations i got in my new house.

Interesting. I remember in the early 70's when I went to Chemawa Jr. High and they played Me & Mrs. Jones continously for hours. I'm tired of the song to this day.
