When did Mix 106.5 launch? According to Wikipedia, its just 1986, no month or day given.

It was either the latter half of the year or the mid-point. I know they were still Hot Hits K-106 in the spring.

According to the FCC website, they changed their call letters to WWMX on 10/17/1986, maybe around there?

From looking up past issues of "Billboard" magazine, the format change happened by 11/15/1986. By that time, K-106 had dropped in the ratings, so a change was needed. The last thing played on K-106 was the jock jingles of all of the air talent that worked there.

Useless trivia: When Mix 106 first signed on, it IDed itself as "WMIX" on the air and did so for many years until the real WMIX in Mount Vernon, IL issued a C&D letter. Afterwards, it just went by Mix 106.5.

When Did Mix 106.5 Go CHR?

Perhaps this was covered in an earlier thread. I recently travelled to Baltimore for the first time in a couple of years. I noticed that Mix had a definite CHR sound. In addition, I like how they are calling themselves, "Baltimore's Mix 106-5," ostensibly to distinguish themselves from D.C.'s Mix, which is barely up the dial and shares a great deal of the same coverage area.

It was 2008 when they started leaning CHR. They are still classified as HotAC an still report to the HotAC panel, yet lean heavily toward CHR. And they still air AT40 HotAC.
