When did NBC 5 (DFW) do away with their 10AM newscast?

In those days(70's- Early 90's) the affiliates had alot more say with how they handled their schedules, it wasnt until most recently(Middle-Late 90's) when networks decided to step up and made their affilates take network programming or lose their affiliation. This is also the same time when most local TV stations also began to run 24/7, instead of signing off, as they fit in syndicated blocks of programming at odd hours.

I remember when KXAS moved "The Childrens Hour" over to saturday mornings and it cut into the first two seasons of "Saved By The Bell", soon after they called it a day on TCH and network programming won out. WFAA still pulls this BS it with the ABC Sat. morning programming block by running their 90 min newscast on sat mornings plus La Vida or Hot On Homes that noone watches, why network hasnt jumped down their throat and enforced their must carry clause is beyond me..im curious if the other Belo stations are getting away with it??

I am not in the business, but WFAA is only station that has not changed ownership and may be under an older agreement with ABC that allows them to get away with more.

The long time franchise holders in others businesses seem to have more control over their business than the newer owners of franchised business.

I must be a bad reader, I thought it said 10PM. I was going to say: YEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! ;)

Also, Disney/ABC has been wanting to buy WFAA for the longest time, so perhaps they play nice with Belo in an effort to someday make that happen. Any other affiliate, they'd be all over them like flies on Mickey.

The 1975 remake of You Don't Say! was on ABC
(the original 1963-69 version was on NBC), which
would have put it on Channel 8. As I recall, You
Don't Say! aired at 3 PM (Central), which is when
Channel 5 would have been airing Somerset.

I recall when I moved to DFW in December 1976,
Channel 8 was showing Edge Of Night at 3 (ABC
had picked it up the year before and slotted it
at that time); it replaced You Don't Say! in
December 1975. So did Channel 8 carry You
Don't Say!? (I'd also like to know if Channel 8
carried Love, American Style when it aired at 3
back in 1972 and '73.)

I do recall, to get back on track, that the only
daytime delay we had when I lived there was
Sanford And Son at 3:30 instead of 9 AM, when
Channel 5 carried Donahue (that's Monday-Friday
daytime, so we don't have to get into the American
Bandstand issue). Channel 5 obviously stepped up
its delays in the '80s and '90s.
