When did WMLO (Mellow 105) did a format flip to Hot 104.9?

In Havana Florida I'm sure it was Mellow 105 for a long time before switching to Hot 104.9 but I don't remember when they did the format flip.

Seems to me that the format flip and branding changes happened sometime around 1995. It had been WMLO - Mellow 105 for a number of years before that.

I believe Ed Winston owned it during most of the Mellow 105 years.

Ed Winton was, in fact, the original owner who implemented the "Mellow" format as WMLO. Previously Winton owned WWBA-AM-FM Saint Petersburg / Tampa and WCGL-AM Jacksonville; all beautiful music during the Winton years.

Mellow 105 was @1st then 2nd they flip it to Hot AC/Top40 of Live 105 then 3rd Hot 104.9 as Top40.

@Mark: Thanks for the correction on Mr. Winton's name.

@Louis: That's correct. It became Live105 when Mr. Winton sold it. It later became Hot 104.9 under Triad/North Florida Broadcasting and has retained that brand under Opus Broadcasting.


The day it went from Mellow to Live105 was unforgettable. There wasn't any advance notice, so a lot of people, mostly older folks who had been listing to Mellow, had quite an awakening that morning to a..well, different genre when their clock radios went off.
