When did WPMI-AM Change?

Their signal doesn't even cover all of Mobile.
The only TRUE clear channel station NWF has is 590 out of Panama City. 10KW.

True, WPMI-AM, now WNTM, likely has no listeners in Florida. I assume this was posted on the North Florida board by mistake, but I also assume most people who check the Alabama board also check the North Florida board. Look for someone to post this same message on the Alabama board in the next week or so...

Well, as one of my favourite radio stations say.. "it's more then the PAN can HANDLE", I guess :)
(They have a well developed news team. I WISH they would apply for a 10KW non directional license..)

They did, a while back (maybe 10 years?) WNTM got permission to move to 1660 at 10KW, but they decided they were better off staying where they are.

Something tells me that Mobile is all they want to cover. They have a full power (I think) channel 15 but their news is mainly focused on Mobile. Screw Florida.

TV's always been that way around here. Regardless of their viewing area, WKRG, WALA, and WPMI only cover news in South West Alabama. WEAR is the only station that covers news in Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties in Florida. WMBB and WJHG cover Walton, Bay, Gulf, Holmes, Washington, Jackson, Calhoun, and Franklin counties in Florida, although most of their viewing area is inhabited by cattle, deer, and fish.
The only places where stations overlap on news coverage are in south Baldwin county Alabama, where WKRG, WALA, WPMI and WEAR all seem to pick up on major news stories and in the Destin area where WEAR, WMBB and WJHG all cover major news events.

The sad fact is, no TV station covers minor or everyday news in the Fort Walton/Destin area even though they have 4 full powered TV stations licensed to that community.

I wonder if this is an FCC violation?
This area makes me sick (or is it the heat)

Out here in the styx, I'm glad to have Cox cable

Also, hardly any news happens in Fort Walton (except the usual speeders on 98 who think they can go 100 in a 55... break.. CRASH)

Though radio does tend to cover traffic and local news. Coast 100.. I mean 93.3 (old habit) does that very well. Except when they go to TESH..

Wasn't WNTM originally WKRG-AM? (before Clear Channel bought them and changed calls to WPMI)

With the future sale of WPMI-TV, I'm sure this has alot to do with the call letter change. This will allow the station to form other TV partnerships in the future. WNTM was the call letters before WPMI for News Talk Mobile.

Fun fact:
WNTM is in the same building as WKRG-TV ???

Is KRG owned by the same company? I think I saw General Media?
(I wish they would fix their audio problem)

-Rob

Media General owns WKRG-TV....the radio stations were sold off when Spartan Communications acquired the TV station in the late 90s.

As for their "audio" problem, here in Mobile, it's not an issue on Comcast cable. Otherwise, WEAR and WPMI are in mono and sound like crap, WJTC is on the left channel only, WBPG is overmodulated, yet WKRG and WALA are fine.

;D I got a couple of "Redneck Cousins" that live in Fort Walton Beach..Never done anything all their life..Maybe that's why there isn't any News Coverage?? Ha! Ain't heard from them since the 80's Maybe them Gators got 'em! APE!

This place is a hole in the earth and getting more expensive. When this area opens up more and our house values increase, time to sell and get out.
