When Disc Jockeys truly were jockeys juggling records they selected

I remember Brew 102 being advertised on radio and TV when I was a kid. Of course I was too young for alcoholic beverages but I still remember the ads and even the building right off the 101 Freeway just east of Downtown.
 
We were talking about DJs who selected the records they played, but that was before all you beer guzzlers took over the thread. :) Remember KFWB in 1967 when B. Mitchel Reed was on from 6 to 9 pm and Dave Diamond was on from 9 to midnight? KFWB was just a few months away from switching to a news format and Reed and Diamond were allowed to play a lot of singles and album tracks that were not part of the regular playlist. Reed left KFWB in 1967 and he and Tom Donahue launched a progressive rock format on KPPC. At that station all the DJs played what they wanted. I remember one hour when Steven Segal played only five songs, including Love's Revelation and the long version of Light My Fire. I can only guess what he was doing while the lengthy songs were playing!
