When Does the Mid-Winter Anomaly Begin?

Listening to the ESPN station on 1040 out of New Jersey, 1:45 PM, beautiful broad-daylight afternoon. Half the state of Pennsylvania has gotta be tuned into the Penn State tremblors.

Something was under them for a few minutes. Might be Avon NY.

Is this normal for that daylight-ionosphere reception, or early?

I've noticed the extended daytime skywave for the last three years or so. Usually it starts about the beginning of December. I've heard it all day long with high "ERP" stations at above 850 kHz or so. Sometimes it just manifests itself as fading of about the same magnitude as the ground wave, leading to complete fades all day long alternating with a signal about twice the groundwave level. Sometimes it goes away for a while, but it always seems to be there. There are some very unusual solar changes which have occurred recently, from what I have read.

NE NC today noon EDT. 530 Cuba female voice w soft music. WSM 650 Nashville 490 miles over land. Most of NYC. and Philly stations in. None of Washington DC heard. Car radio in parking lot. Getting good!
