What do you mean? It's already running regional Mexican. Are you hearing more information?

My information about WKY is limited

Nope, I have no information other than what Fred Hendrickson, a long-time friend told me.

I am a little sad. But as I told someone ... time marches on ...

So, what did you hear? Was it just that it was flipping to regional Mexican?

What I know about the new WKY

Here is what I was told ...

The switch was made about three weeks ago and apparently the station is patched into an existing Hispanic station.

I was told it sounds like a satellite feed. Uptempo music.

Perhaps just a skeleton crew at WKY now. I really don't know.

All fired....... Just simulcast with the 105.3 bunch playing Mexican crap. I don't believe there's even people in the room as it's sat. feed. What a nice way for a three-letter legendary station to end up. Now it's nothing more than an extention cord for the 105.3 taco warmer of Kingfisher.

I do not mean to insult you Insultant.

But I cannot stand racial slurs.

Hispanics of all ages live in Oklahoma City and perhaps enjoy that station.

We can do without all the racial stuff.

If WKY serves the Hispanic community as it should, I am happy with the change.

Change is the name of the game.

WKY was a flop as a talk station and the days of top 40 on AM ended at least 25 years ago.

Let's move on.

Re: Let's stop the racial slurs ... they are unnecessary ...

What racial slurs? "Taco warmer" I think was more of a way to say that 105.3 has a crappy signal than anything else.

And I don't really think WKY can be considered a flop as a talk format. They were right there with KOKC in ratings, were under-promoted, and provided live local talk. That could have been a big format for them if Citadel had handled it properly.

Hey, are you kidding ... "right there with KOKC in ratings"?

Both were at or below a 1.0 -- usually the benchmark for national accounts.

They both are a flop. Now KOMA all-news and talk with a staff was great!

Now they are mostly satellite feed. Horrible.

Sure maybe if promoted, WKY could have done some. But they weren't.

And bunch of if and what could have beens ... don't cut it.

That that is, is.

That that is not, is not.

Is that it?

Racial slurs are NOT funny, period.

You are unfunny.

Walk up to a person from Mexico and ask them if he or she think the term, "taco warmer" is funny.

I tell you frankly, you are either racist or insensitive ... or both.

Don't accuse me of trying to control your speech.

But don't you dare try to tell ME that racial epithets are funny.

Because they are not.

And you are not funny, my ignorant friend.

For the most part, WKY WAS gaining a bit on KOKC. The latest book didn't show that, but the long-term trend of things was generally up for WKY. I would hardly call them a success though, for sure.

First, Tony, understand I'm not trying to chew on you about this. However, I must clarify things..

Now, on to the subject of the "taco warmer". I was aiming that more as a slam on their PATHETIC signal of 105.3 more so than the ethnicity of their listenership. However, since they ARE Mexicans, being a TACO warmer makes a lot more sense than an egg roll warmer or spaghetti warmer. Once again, think of 930 as an extension cord for the TACO warmer. Where they can't hear it in stereo, which is about 3/4 of the metro, there's 930.

I personally am quite tired of people being so put-out about "slurs". The problem with this country is people are too busy worrying about stuff like this that doesn't matter to worry about things that DO matter. What does matter is while jobs are leaving in the hundreds daily for red China and Mexico there are people that haven't taken time to learn ANY English are illegally entering the US and getting better medical care than you and I while we the legal citizens pay the majority of taxes in our fine country. Since I believe I still have the constitutional right of the first amendment, I will continue to make a few "slurs" from time to time, just as I pick on corporate carpetbagger slumlords that seem to control our publicly owned frequencies. (I realize I am on a board that has the right to censor what they wish, however, I also have the right to start my own board if I wish to pay for it and put up with the B.S. baggage that comes with owning a board) No one is immune to my ridicule if they deserve it. Think of me as an equal opportunity insulter. If all of a sudden we start getting a bunch of illegal Germans here in the US that lack education and can't speak English, count on me making a crack or two about them also. Equal insults for all. Now that's the American way of doing things.

God Bless America, where I can get my hot tacos and sour kraut all in the same fine country. Where else on earth is there this kind of convergence?

Well, Arbitron is all we have to go by. And again, without a minimum of 1.0, you will never snag any national accounts ... simply a radio fact.

I do understand what you are saying.

But you must understand that some see it as insensitive including a friend of mine that runs a group of stations programmed to the Hispanic community.

Actually, you have no First Amendment rights on this board (by the way, First Amendment should always be in caps ... that bugs me because it is our foremost freedom.)

Safford gives you that right as well as other moderators and the owners of this board.

Radio-Info is privately owned ... you have no rights. They can censor anything without cause.

It is THEIR right because they own the board.

We agree to disagree again.

Americans should learn to speak other languages.

Stubborness is what it is called ... and ignorance.

Jackie Kennedy learned five languages.

Why can't Americans learn at least one other language?

As I have stated, I have the right to start my own board if I want to also. So far, I'd rather hang here with Radio-Info as the haven't squelched our speech lately. They have the right to stop what I say here but they don't control the entire net. I have the right to compete with them. That's my right. So far I see no need to do so.

Why should we in the US have to totally change our way of operating with printed material and signs to accomidate imigrants that in many cases aren't even legally here? Learning a language is cool.. Being forced to accomidate a mass of people that require the existing population to cater to them isn't cool. Would the US like to have 7 or 8 different languages spoken here in daily life? If everyone kept their native language and refused to change like many Spanish do, do you think we could get a DAMN thing done around here? I can see it now. I go to the store, the guy that runs it is speaking Chineese to me, I'm trying to speak Russian back to him. Then the next guy is German. What a mess.

Fair enough. Let THEM censor us as they see fit. They don't need your help there.

Why SHOULD Americans learn other languages exactly? To those who visit other countries often, or move to another country where a different language is spoken, yes they should learn that language. Same goes for people who move here. They should learn English if they want to get the most out being here. I spent a vacation in Japan several years ago. I was hard-pressed to find anything in English. Which is why I took a crash-course in Japanese before I went. It's common sense.

We agree more than we disagree ... perhaps I did not make my points as clear as possible ...

Yes, you are right. Of course, all I was pointing out was that you have zero First Amendment rights. The administrators can ban or censor anything.

I know ... been there ... done that ... :)

They shouldn't. Immigrants should learn English as rapidly as possible in order to better themselves.

Yes, that was my only point.

No, you are absolutely right. They must learn English if they wish to succeed and move up.

Yes. Absolutely. But it would not hurt Americans to learn some Spanish.

Understanding other cultures "is a good thing" as Martha would say.
