When Flipping...

Seems to me that when a station flips format and voice, that would be the time to either go jockless or flip the jocks.

If you change all but the jocks then some listeners will def be let down in a sense.

Some might like the fact that old friends still reside.

I was taught by a CHRIS BAILEY from San Diego that keeping jocks and everything else familiar is the best way to win.

Just like familiar music wins out over new stuff (in general).

However...it seems to me you'd be shooting yourself in the foot by Yelling that you are new with new voice guy, and
new music...and then here comes the same jocks you had on prior. In particular if the format is really different.

Reminds of that Howard Stern movie "Private Parts" when one station owner tells Howard that numbers are down, but I've got something great to fix that, then the next day Howard is wearing a cowboy hat introing a country song.

HA

Whatz your thoughts?

My thoughts?? Welcome to KTFM. Notorious for doing that.

why not?

If their skill set doesn't fit the new approach, the station has every right to import new talent.

OR, if the former station has a really bad rep, it makes no sense to hang onto name talent that's associated with the lousy programing. Skills, experience AND ATTITUDE have almost everything to do with those decisions, imho.

M3 aka Master Mixin Mando has replaced Danny D.- Music Director. Anyone know if Robin is still PD/Morning host or has he also been shown the door?

CONGRATS TO MANDO!!

My sources say that Robin will be moved to afternoons and the morning spot is open. Maybe they will put Joe Nasty on mornings. Everyone knows Joe Nasty. Congrats to M3.

Sometimes it takes a mess to stand out.

hmmmm. I kind of like that. Well if done correctly they might pull it off and be successful. But dont forget the big huge IF. If they pull it off maybe other stations will follow suit and take a crack at the format, OR we will once again see another failure of the KTFM calls. Time will tell.

I think making Mando the new Music Director will bring back the success KTFM once had. Let's face it, Mando knows what San Antonians like. He was at the old KTFM and has been in the club scene for many years. So IMO, this will definetly is a big plus. BMP just needs to get a new PD that knows how to pronounce the artist that are on the current playlist as well as know something about them.

Posted by: gradio-If you look at www.movindfw.com It's very similar to the new KTFM. Not a bad thing, just something I noticed.

I still say they sound like KTU without the Disco crap. www.ktu.com

Master Mixing Music Directing Mando-Plus
Finally playa

I was glad to see M3 named Music Director. But as a dance music fan, I am a little disappointed. It's great that KTFM still plays 80's and 90's dance but where's the new stuff? The most recent spin of dance was Cascada- What hurts the most. And that was when Danny D. held the MD position. Also, with M3 having the experience at nightclubs and in the radio business I figured he would have brought more creativity to the station but it's actually been the opposite.

Maybe losing Danny D. as Music Director wasn't such a good idea.
