When is Christmas Coming to Atlanta Radio?

I'd be more than happy if it started December 24th and ended December 25th.

Also, does anyone else remember hearing Christmas music until January 1 growing up? I could swear that radio (namely Peach) played a couple of holiday tunes until New Years.

CC's Magic 98.1 (Newnan/LaGrange), Sunny 100 (Columbus), and Peach 96.5 (Macon) went all-Christmas on or around November 13th/14th this year.

Ok, Christmas Music will begin on Thanksgiving Day on B98.5!

I'll repeat my statement from last year, as well. The first station to "go Christmas" before Thanksgiving night will be the first station I ignore for the rest of the year.

I can't be alone in this feeling but I don't claim to speak for anyone else.

Here is the philosophical conundrum: how do I boycott something I don't even listen to?

No, you are not alone. As soon as November rolls around, all the Christmas stations fall off my pre-sets in the car.

In fact, since I knew B half a sleep.5 would be going all Christmas I dropped it and replaced it with El Groovo.

WMJJ/Birmingham (CC) went all-Christmas last week. WLND/Chattanooga (CC classic country) did as well, but powerhouse AC WDEF-FM (Bahakel) is still on regular programming. CC AC's WGSY/Columbus is also Christmas, however, WBBQ/Augusta appears to be a holdout. WSYA Anniston (locally owned AM feeding 2 FM translators) is all-Christmas. WSPA/Greenville-Spartanberg (Entercom) is ringing their jingle bells as well. South Central's Tennessee ACs WJXA/Nashville and WJXB/Knoxville are on normal programming.

Clear Channel seems to want to jump on Christmas early. Many smaller owners, as well as those that do their homework (Cox) know to wait rather than make listeners more mad then they already make them by taking away normal AC programming for a month. (I also was wondering how "Premium Choice", which all of the CC AC's mentioned above are using would play into things. Apparently, they must have seperate feeds available).

Speaking of "El Groovo"...B98.5 may want to reconsider going all-Christmas in light of the Groove's arrival, since 105.7 is a rythmic AC closely tied to mainstream AC in many ways. I have a feeling many normal listeners will find 105.7...and not turn back after the holidays. But since 105.7 has a much weaker signal, I wonder which would be more important...short-term monster ratings, or making sure your normal ratings don't fall off after that due to a new choice.

Based on last year, all Christmas music might happen Monday on 104.7 The Fish and next Friday on B98.5.

You can read my thoughts on this subject in my Atlanta radio blog at atlairwaves.blogspot.com.

hmmm..Roddy it didn't happen...on The Fish Today! ;D

I agree with the above statement, and I will go one further.. If you really need xmas music all month long , then you are too happy and need some serious therapy..!!!! There is nothing to be that up and happy about.. Unless your rich and can afford christmas, but if your like me.. Its a sad time of year indeed.. Comon play some hard rock, and lets really have some fun.. Dont need to hear about how "Happy" and " wonderful it is this year.. !
