When is it too early for Christmas music?

Forgot to mention. "Holly Jolly Christmas" was playing in KMart when I paid my credit card bill. After that the next song was regular AC, but the music is there.

This is another topic, but all but one of the songs met my standards for Christmas music

Which puts you in category #2 of Darth's post.

Your standards may or may not be indicative of listeners in general, and based upon the way you complain incessantly here, I'm guessing the latter.

You're missing the point. I listen to the radio for the music programming and it's very jarring to have to deal with that in the middle of it. They came to their senses last night, because the Christmas station IDs, as opposed to the regular ones, fit much better with the music they were playing. Then they took a break from music and did the traffic report with this annoying instrumental AC music. That was enough for me to change stations, especially since a break on one of these stations is lots of commercials.

This is another topic, but all but one of the songs met my standards for Christmas music, which is better than one might expect for an AC. Even better than America's Best Music, in fact. I listened to Waylon and Willie while Mariah Carey or whoever was yowling. I don't mind all-Christmas right now because it's just about the only way to hear the music I like. But I wouldn't listen at home because it's harder to change stations than in the car and, with an AC, I might have to do that a lot. And one reason for the popularity of Christmas music may just be that it gets people like me to listen to music they wouldn't otherwise get to hear on traditional AM or FM radio.

Or you could not listen. Or buy records/tapes/MP3s of precisely what you want. Or use Pandora et al. There's nothing "forcing" you do "deal" with anything. The background music in a store is nothing to get worked up over. It's just music, and the rest of the world is not obligated to cater to your individual idiosyncrasies (or anyone else's for that matter).

You know, I've suggested that to him many times in the past, here and elsewhere (I get the feeling I'm not the only one) and all I usually get is the rhetoric about how "his shopping trips are complicated enough" or some vague excuse like that. I think the real reason is he's afraid he'll have nothing to whine about if he actually fixes the problem. I mean he probably feels the incessant complaining's been a successful format for him thus far (people react to it), so why risk it?

Chimp, you refuse to fix your own problems, which aren't even that difficult to fix, so quit whining about it. Fair enough?

How about we just cancel Christmas? It isn't like it really represents an actual event and doesn't apply to but a fraction of the world's population. It could be moved to a date closer to the actual date depicted which would be in the middle of Summer and then we could ignore it by holding BBQ's in the park like the other holidays.

Would have been better had Currier shot Ives.

Chimp would still find something to complain about.

You know, Chimp, you once berated me for being the only person who wouldn't tolerate your whining. It seems apparent that I am not so alone in that as you think.

I suggest that, should you respond with more whining, everyone report the post so Frank will have to deal with you.

Err...I don't think his whining is violating the Terms of Use. Just ignore his complaints....

I don't know about that. Frank has tossed people out for continuing arguments long after they'd been proven wrong.

Is chimp dreaming of a whites-only Christmas, perhaps?

Chimp is a grinch

I love Christmas Music from Now to Jan. 1st, I can't wait for KOIT to flip

Not only Chimp. I love the old Christmas classics as much as anyone but I don't want to hear them, or their modern variations, every time I turn on the radio. Just as I don't listen exclusively to Def Leppard, The Dixie Cups or Frank Sinatra song after song.

Nah. I'm sure Nat King Cole and Johnny Mathis will always be welcome visitors to his audio world. Yowlers come in all colors, although Carey is a good example. I'd put Celine Dion in that category as well.

I said they are too complicated to fix, and I'm sticking with that.

It's the holidays already. So far, my top 3 presets are WQPW-Valdosta, KARY-Yakima and WJEK-Champaign.
I absolutely love the huge Xmas music variety on WQPW. Yes, "The Christmas Song" Nat King Cole, "Frosty the Snowman" Jimmy Durante, "Merry Christmas Darling" Carpenters, "All I Want for Christmas Is You" Mariah Carey and "Jingle Bell Rock" Bobby Helms are classics, but do we need to hear them every 60 minutes?
They are the only station I've heard so far that has aired anything from the Duck Dynasty Xmas album. "Duck the Halls". At least duck calls are better than barking dogs. BTW, does ANY station air the ill-fated Barking Dogs Jingle Bells anymore??
KARY is my local Christmas station and they have a good variety as well - lots of traditional stuff 1950s-1960s, but there is some newer stuff as well. I cringe every time I hear them play "Text Me Merry Christmas" Straight No Chaser...
WJEK in Champaign does well with their format as well. I hear a lot of the usual, but they mix a bunch of rarer songs as well. I heard Firefall's "Christmas in Love" last time I streamed them, a few nights ago.

Last year it was WQPW, KARY, KRWM (my old local on 106.9-Seattle), WJEK and KVNA-Flagstaff. KRWM has tightened the playlist and they got rid of a bunch of good stuff -darn you Hubbard. I don't hear Gloria Estefan or Kenny Loggins' versions of The Christmas Song, nor do I hear ANY Babyface on there anymore.
KVNA is now Adult Album Alternative - the soft rock format moved to KVNA-AM 600 and a 104.7 translator. As of Sunday, they didn't have Xmas music at all. Great playlist when they do.

Does it matter when Santa Claus comes, as long as you recognize him when he arrives?
