WHEN IT COMES TO THE PROVIDENCE MARKET....

I think we can assume it's a wrap. What else can you say about a market like this?

Wait until more of the well known personalities leave for one reason or another and see what the market becomes. That'll stifle discussion.

Maybe it's all been said, and maybe there's just not much to be said about radio in general anymore. But what about markets comparable to Providence in size? How are they doing in comparison to Providence in quality of programming, revenue, talent, local origination, etc.?

Is anyone doing radio in any market the way it used to be done 10 years ago? With any success? Can anything be done to retrieve the distinctiveness of radio once again?

In terms of Clear Channel, 94 'HJY has more live programming than does Kiss 108. In addition, Kiss even voicetracks one of its listeners from Q102/Philly. And Miami's Classic Rocker, Big 105.9, is running Premium Choice crap. at least on weekends. I hope against hope that Clear Channel continues to "protect" 'HJY from such destruction...

But much of the HJY live programming is a shadow of what it was years ago. I don't know if it's her own personality or if it's the suits telling her, but middayer Jenn has the most dull and boring breaks. I don't think she even announces the song, she just comes on and says "94HJY," then reads some lame promotion. And that's it. I know she's VTing in New Hampshire, but it's completely ridonculous.

Jacko

Jacko, I could not agree with you more. A while back, I posted about how 'HJY's breaks years ago were far more interesting than they are now. I miss Amy Hagen's breaks, especially when she was leafing through a magazine and recounted an article for about five minutes. Paul and Al even do shorter bits. The only show that seems largely unchanged is Charles'.

I wonder if Clear Channel has a "protected" stations list. In other words, is there a list of stations that will get to keep some sort of budget? 'HJY seems to have made the cut. Let's hope it stays that way.
