When New Ain't New No More

Dear WILK,

Pretty soon you will celebrate your second anniversary of being on 103.1FM. The years have been good to you, however the champagne is gone, the cake is stale, and the honeymoon is over. Can you please stop the "New on 103.1 FM" liners?

Respectfully,

An "Old" Friend

Some things never change.. I was doing overnights circa 1981 when I was reading liners that had "the New 98 WILK" on them. I was never told that they had retired the phrase and all letterhead and liners still used that slogan..... management was taken to task by the Citizens Voice over the usage of the slogan and they denied that they were using that phrase anymore, meantime I was told to never to mention that slogan again.... however a Newspaper photographer ran a photo of their Van in the Parking lot and the logo outside the station both boldly advertised THE NEW 98 WILK... With their foot in their mouth I was advised that it was my fault, and if I ever uttered that phrase on air, I'd be looking for work!

I know. And the same show promos run for days, weeks. There was a Nancy and Kevin promo running in the fall for over a month. Maybe it's tough to find a highlight a day?

When I left WILK in 1979, we were using "The New 98". That was certainly not as repulsive as "98-oh! WILK". Thank you, Jamie Morgan. (Tongue in cheek)

What about "98 and a half KRZ"
