When the bombs exploded in Boston

With Internet use at record highs and the explosion of smart phones to get a quick news update, its terrific news for Radio that on the afternoon of Patriots Day in Atlanta more than a half million people were listening to stations that were providing extensive coverage of the terrorist attack.
More people listened to WSB 750-95.5 than any other station in Atlanta that afternoon and it had 100,000 more listeners than the other two stations covering the story in depth combined.
The most listened to stations in drive time that day were:
WSB
WVEE
WSB-F
WSRV
WALR
WHTA
WSTR
WAMJ
WWWQ
and WWPR

Despite the naysayers Atlanta radio is alive and News Radio remains a destination when your world is turned upside down.

Something about the wording there sounds really wrong :-\ - but I see what you're saying

Wow. Where is WYAY?

WYAY was there and doing an outstanding job at covering the news. But if a tree falls in a forest while no one is there to listen...

While WYAY is well known throughout the boards amongst us radio geeks, the general listenership hasn't a clue it's there. If Atlantans want radio news, they're programmed to turn to WSB.

Cumulus is its own worst enemy here as they're notorious for failing to market their own product. You can have the best operation around, but if no one knows, it becomes your worst kept secret. If they ever want to see a return on their investment in All News, they're going to have to develop an appropriate marketing campaign.

I do not tune in 99.7 or 101.5 much but do they ever promote 106.7? For example, during a major news event, have a break in from the AN 106.7 news room. Do they do brief newscasts during AM drive? Of so this is an easy and inexpensive promo for 106.7.

Based on All News numbers I have seen- they desperately need this...and it makes so much sense for them to cross-promote.

^Not sure which network, but I've heard TV news anchors refer to All News 106.7 over and over - I've also seen billboards on highways and banners on buses

IMO the only station getting more promotion than that is Power, and even those ads have dropped off lately

But no TV ads referencing what "All News" on 106.7 actually means. Somebody who says that on air to an audience member probably isn't explaining what the station or all-news is, in general.

I think TV ads would be a pretty big risk

TV anchors telling millions of ATL viewers that "ABC and All News 106.7 report that..." is a pretty big deal - unless you're talking about the traffic/weather aspect of it - personally, I don't think it would make that much difference, since you can get traffic and weather on almost any morning show in ATL

Would Cox allow a thirty or sixty sec flight of commercials for AN 106.7 on Channel 2 during the ABC network news?
I've seen it before...other TV stations advertising Cox radio and Channel 2 advertising non-Cox radio...

I do not understand why the other Cumulus stations do not do this. At. All.

If AN can plug 680 The Fan for sports why can't the other Cumulus stations plug AN for news? Unless they are scared of people tuning over and losing their listenership...but as the old saying goes, you'd better cannibalize your own business before someone else (coughCoxcough) does...

If you were ch. 2, would you promote Fox 5?

Remember, AN is designed as a service not to expect people listening for long periods at one time, so don't expect the ratings you would get if you threw some talk shows into your schedule.

Billboards would probably be their best advertising just to get the word out.

I remember seeing billboards right after the initial flip - but with the ratings they have now, I don't see how Cumulus can afford it
