When they let wlrs die on the vine what do you think the new format will be?

Hard to say what this city even needs as far as new formats.I would think the fresh format they have in nyc would be a interesting choice something a notch or so above lite 106.9.If done well could work not like that awful love 102.3 yuk!!!

Opinions please

Man you are hung up on WLRS! They just had a ratings increase, but I don't know how. I bet Mainline don't flip it.

It will be convient to kills rock on WLRS once Way-FM takes over WLRX, but, I think the rock format change in Louisville will happen on Radio Drive first... I'm suprised the FOX hasn't flipped yet.

But, I agree.. the "Fresh" or a more upbet "newer" a/c would do well here... LOVE was done all wrong.

Maybe even a rhy a/c to compliment the urban cluster at Mainline, if they kill WLRS

Why would they flip LRS? It's run on the cheap and it's the only male dominated station in the cluster. Does HotPatrick know anything about cluster programming? LRS has been rumored to be flipping formats since it came back on the air in 2000.

It's not the format. The problem with the station is no leadership. Once they brought in Radio One's Alan Sneed and JD Kunes as consultants the station became generic and boring. The station was really in it's prime right before Lance Hale became the PD. Then it started going into the [EDIT] If I may opine. They should have let Shane Collins continue as Interim Program Director. The station was humming along fine at that time.

Music. Mornings. Marketing.

[EDIT-profanity]

I didn't know Shane Collins use to be at WLRS. Hey Geek, CC sold the Fox and 101-7, so they'll flip after it's complete i guess.

Actually, B96 is the highest cuming male station in the Radio One cluster.
Wlrs is tired and weary. Hasn't had any success this entire decade. Very poor presentation, bad jocks, etc.

Does the GM and DOS have confidence in this station? Would they be willing to put their own butts on the line to save it? Do you think Mainline spent their money on that station with the expectation that it will just do okay? I would guess no, no and no.

Hey Talkproducer, When did CC sell the 2 signals and who bought them?

It was not humming along fine i remember those times it was 2002 and california by phantom planet was a hit guess who did not play that and waiting by greenday was a hit and guess who did not play that either you got it the decrepit old lrs.I called mudd at the time and asked him why they did not play those tunes he said we should be but had no answer.lrs was awesome when they went back on the air in march of 2000 good talent good format but somehow they lost there way and are now just a mess!!!!Return it to a true alternative station then i say keep it if not i have no use for what once was a decent station.

I'm showing my age...I admit that, but to me, WLRS was at it's best in 1988-1989 as Rock 102, Pure Rock 'n Roll. It was white boy top 40 with a heavy dose of Bon Jovi, Ratt, Poison & other hair bands. That came along just as rap was starting to remove the top 40 stations from my presets. When Rock 102 went away, I started listening to Country & Oldies. To all who were part of that regime, thanks for some great radio!

B96 is an urban station that does not target males 18-34. LRS targets males 18-34.

A Movin' format at the Radio One/Mainline cluster would never happen due to the fact that it would cut into the ratings of cash cow DJX. This is what cluster programming is about. It would also hurt the ratings at B96.

Chase is right about counter and cluster programming... On Bob's favorite era.. I think that and the original 3kw 'little giant' in the true progressive/aor days was a gem... They got more listeners per FM watt than anyone could imagine... I loved their 'homegrown' LPs you could buy and the 'coolness' was as good as the early followings of 'EBN in Cincy and K-SHE in St. Louie... Or 'KDF in Nash-Vegas... I miss the old 102/LRS lights on the railroad bridge east of the Kennedy....

As the historian George Santayana has said: "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to relive it."

Live it, love it, know it. Especially anybody who has to deal with a bad programmer.

No opinions because they don't stream. Make 'em stream. Otherwise this topic is one that doesn't apply to me because I've never heard this station before and would like to listen to it but not in the area.

I reply to other boards because the Wisconsin one stinks what with someone posting Capital Times news all all the time.

I just caught a promo for LRS fest that ended with "New Rock 105.1 WLRS". WAY-FM hasn't shown up on 104.3 yet, though.

They probably won't until after the close. The assignment of license has been filed, but not approved and there was no LMA agreement filed with it. Judging how fast the FCC moves on these things, look for early to mid fall before it's approved. Closing is usually 10-15 days after that.

It is funny when 104.3 goes back on the air it will be the format that 105.1 was in the 90s. Before blue chip bought 105.1 it was religious programming back in the 90s.It was at first a hot ac station before religious very odd station that would play air supply and follow it up with inxs. The old saying goes the more things change the more they stay the same.

The Christian music that use to air on 105.1 was quite softer music compared to the CCM style coming to 104.3. As a matter a fact, the 105.1 Christian format use to run promotional images depicting the more upbeat CCM. There slogan was "Soft Christian Favorites."
