WHEN THEY START, DO YOU ALL THINK?

When these new Sports Radio Networks (CBS, and NBC) starts. Do you all think all the rest of them (ESPN Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and Yahoo Sports Radio) will continue?
How about "Sports Byline USA" They're not 24/7, but they do have some overnight shows on. They're pretty good. I listened to them when I was on vacation on a Saturday into Sunday morning. Their site states that they start at 1am-6am. Well, at 3am, they repeated the show. So, it was only live for two hours. There are a lot of Sports to cover (Example: Baseball Talk about most of the games between 1am-3am, between 3am-6am talk about Football 3am, Basketball 4am, and Golf 5am) There you go!!!
"ESPN Radio" and Yahoo Sports Radio doesn't seem to be LIVE (the whole overnight If they are, it's only for a few hours)
The only one who's live pretty much the whole night is "Fox Sports Radio"

Anyways, going back to "Sports Overnight America" on Sportsbyline USA, it sounded ok. Not bad at all. If they was on live the whole night like it's advertised, i think they can be very sucessfull, and it would be a great alternative for Talk Stations to use on weekend overnights.

Considering ESPN, CBS, NBC will have a TV vehicle and strong online presence to help their cause, I'd be surprised if Yahoo survives. At least FSR has Clear Channel's backing. So, they'll be viable b/c of it.

Actually, JT the Brick's first hour is repeated at 5a Eastern.

I do believe Fox Sports and ESPN Radio will be able to weather through the competition just fine. They're strong enough (especially ESPN) to where it wouldn't affect them too badly. As for Yahoo!, I know everyone wants to write them off. I'm not quite so sure if they bite the dust that quickly. That said, what happens with Tim Brando will determine the network's status. He is the most well-known personality on Yahoo!. His show is simulcasted on CBS Sports Network, but it would make a whole lot of sense for his radio show to be on CBS. Without other strong personalities, it would be hard to make a case for Yahoo! to survive. Also, what happens to Jim Rome's future with Premiere? He has a 30-minute daily show on CBSSN (something similar to "Jim Rome Is Burning" on ESPN), but his radio show is syndicated through Premiere Radio Networks (which is run by Clear Channel, which, in turn, runs Fox Sports Radio).

It'll be interesting what happens with Brando, his primary contract is with CBS for his football and basketball work. But his contract with Gow for the Yahoo show extends beyond the launch of CBS. You could see a buyout situation there.

Rome, meanwhile, has his primary deal with Premiere. It's worth several times what CBS is paying him for his TV stuff. Additionally, Rome's radio show has been dropped by many Citadel/Cumulus stations in recent years for local shows due to low ratings and difficulty selling local ads. I don't see a situation where CBS/Cumulus pays what Rome commands on the radio side, only to have half of their stations refuse to carry him.

What would make sense would be for CBS and Gow to come to some sort of agreement and include Yahoo's branding and contributors. But that's not going to happen because CBS is launching this to get more value out of the money they're paying top writers on the web side. CBS nearly became Gow's partner when they dropped the "Sporting News" brand last year, but didn't have contracts in place with their writers to make the jump. Now, CBS has included radio spots in all of their writers' new deals, with national show-exclusivity in place for some of them.

I think the stable of writers and experts that Yahoo brings to YSR is too strong for it to go away completely, especially with the Rival.com connection. You may eventually see them and NBC's new network get together.

ESPN Radio: Definitely sticks around. It is, and will probably remain, the 800-pound gorilla of sports radio.

Fox Sports Radio: Only if they can keep Jim Rome (OK, his show is technically not part of FSR, but it's still CC-syndicated) and Dan Patrick. Rome works for CBS now, and Patrick does some work for NBC, so they could jump to those respective radio networks when their current contracts expire. If they're gone, I can see CC getting out of the sports-radio business.

Yahoo Sports Radio: I can see this one going away, and soon. They have no ties to TV - either by license (Fox) or ownership (ESPN) - and they own no stations of their own, unlike CC and The Mickey Mouse Outfit. Plus, I hear that the new Yahoo CEO wants to make big changes, and sports radio is not part of their core business. Once CBS and NBC get their networks going, I can see affiliates dumping YSR for one of them and Yahoo selling or shutting down the network.

which one would you all listen to once it starts? Or would you keep listenning to your current favorite network? (which is?)

I would choose (NBC) One reason, is because they and the Golf Channel currently colaborate together.
If they're still around, I would choose to listen to as a second choice (either "Fox Sports Radio"/"Yahoo Sports Radio"-Tied=Because they sound way more alive than "ESPN Radio")

and you all?

I stream The Ticket out of Dallas during the day. I listen to FSR a lot on the weekends. Most nights I have JT on too.

Well, we now know the answer to this question. My question is, what happens to Dan Patrick's radio show - will it end up on NBC Sports Radio? I have a good feeling that it will.

So with Rome leaving and DP probably on the move too, who's CC going to promote to those time slots? They have the "talent" pool.

FSR will become a guy talk network that happens to talk sports from time to time because of the Fox Sports connection, think the old hot talk days when Stern anchored your mornings.

David Gow does own 2 stations in the Houston area, 50kW 1560 KGOW and 100kW 97.5 KFNC. Drop in the bucket compared to the two operations you mentioned, but he does own the 2 outright (Once the sale is approved on KFNC from Cumulus to Gow).
