When to Add 'The' to Band Names

Automakers do the same thing. For example, Toyota never refers to the Camry as "the Camry". They just call it "Camry".

However, the Home Depot insists that you put the the in front of their name.

Yet few do, probably because Office Depot made no such demand. It is now Staples, not The Staples.

Any graduates of The Ohio State University around here?

That's THE Ohio State University! (derided as AN Ohio State University by Darryl Parks when he was on WLW). Apparently it's to differentiate from Ohio University in Athens.

Back then, they would also sometimes add Mr. or Miss to a non-gender-specific name, such as Mr. Acker Bilk, Miss Toni Fisher, etc.
The names you cite—replete with the title of Mr. or Miss—are as they appeared on their respective record labels. The name that appeared on the label of We Five records, however, was never "The We Five."
