When will CNN & Fox News go HD?

Hi! While I'm on the subject on television news in high definition, do you know when CNN & Fox News will transmit all of their programs in HD? Right now KLAS-TV in Las Vegas is the first station in Nevada to have all the newscasts in HD, WNBC (New York), KABC (Los Angeles) & WPVI (Philadelphia), also have newscasts in HD, & so as Sportscenter on ESPN & CNBC recently built a new state of the art studio that somehow broadcasts in HD? I'm thinking that CNN & Fox News are working on new state of the art studios so that they can broadcast all their programming via HD? I'm not sure if this process will start next year or a couple years from new when all of the analog stations, especially maybe all the cable networks will transfer to high definition. What do you think about this?

You're asking about actual networks, then comparing to your local affliate. Apples and oranges. I can't see any importance to FOX News or CNN to transmit in HD. They'd be more concerned about getting news to people "on the go", i.e. podcasts, wireless technology, etc.

The original poster highlights a couple of huge problems. 1. I think the trend toward branding stations as "Fox5" or "ABC 7" has made it hard for many viewers to know when they're watching local news and when they're watching a national show.
2. Just because a studio is built to handle HD doesn't mean a true HD broadcast will come from it.

Maybe when they actually start having news.

The less actual news they run, the easier it will be to upgrade. After all, it takes a lot less to equip Fox News or CNN to run talking heads arguing in a studio in HD, versus providing HD field reports.

Hi everyone:

If cost and equipment were issues for the cable news outlets to provide field reports in HD, then how is it that local stations are able to do it without breaking the bank or straining their technical resources?

Somethin' in your logic just doesn't add up Tom.

Cheers :D

- DO local stations do field reports in HD, or is that just for the studio bits?
- Local stations only need to transmit stuff within a market. CNN and co. need to transmit stuff across the nation and around the world.
