When will Dave Connant return to WRTI morning show?

A few weeks ago, it was said one morning on WRTI 90.1 FM that the Dave Connant was taking part in some station direction studies of some sort and that he would need to be absent from the morning show for a period. He is still heard on top of the hour IDs (voiceovers) and on the pre-recorded performance from the Kimmel Center on Sundays. Does anyone know his ETA for return?

Conant was back on the air in his usual time for the morning show last week. Greg Whiteside had been filling in. Thanks for all your help! I mean, I could not have found out anything without you. It was worth it, reading through all the duplicate threads about 106.9, a station with less than a third of WRTI's 0.9 rating.

For a format that is now defunct. I don't know if you've noticed that they aren't Family Radio anymore. That's why we're discussing it.

Got this email today from WRTI:

Earlier today, I announced my retirement from the morning shift on WRTI. As the station's general manager, the time has come for me to focus full time on the future of the great music we broadcast. I've had the privilege of serving our community as a classical music host for over 40 years; I want to sincerely thank you for allowing me to share my love of classical music with you.

I fervently believe that classical music and jazz will always be with us; however, it comes as no surprise that both face challenges to remaining free and accessible to everyone in our community via radio. It is this open access to so many that is the defining difference between WRTI and other presenters of classical music and jazz; no other single institution in our community, or indeed all others combined, reaches as many people with such frequency, variety, and convenience as WRTI.

As new technologies and competitors arise, it is our duty to be responsive and agile in delivering new services that meet the demands of our changing lifestyles such as Internet radio and other digital services. But we must also remain steadfast in our core commitment to remain a free service requiring no monthly fees or tickets. The combination of emerging services with our commitment to traditional services places us in the position of always growing our infrastructure and capacity. This growth requirement makes for a challenging environment, but we're up for the challenge.

Looking forward, I will be strengthening and building WRTI's relationships with current and new community partners. The future of this music cannot be secured without strong bonds with other institutions that share similar goals as WRTI. I believe that such partnerships must ultimately benefit you through new or improved programming, greater access to live performances in the community, and cultivating a lifelong appreciation for this music - a goal I believe most of us share.

I will also be spending more time with many of you who share our commitment to this music and our community. I will seek your insights, your stories, and your help in marshaling resources and nurturing the next generation of listeners and performers of this great music. It is a role that WRTI is ideally suited to perform. You're invited to begin the process here by sharing your feedback on this news and the future of WRTI.

Again, I want to thank you for an exceptional 40 years. The passion I have for this music and for radio guides me every day. I hope I've made you smile, perhaps think, but most of all be entertained. I will continue to work every day to be deserving of your trust and support as this great institution moves forward.

Sincerely,
Dave Conant
WRTI General Manager

After 40 years, he is certainly entitled!

I remember him from his WFLN-AM days in the late 1970s when I first moved to Philly...the host of "Morning Potpourri..."
