When will Hip Hop & R&B Competition Return to Houston Radio?

Its been a couple of year since Party 93.3 left town and I wanted to know when will do you all think the next rival will come to town to compete with KBXX or KMJQ or both? Also what station will flip for it and what are some possible names for the new station?

The format would have to be on a Missouri City stick to have any chance of success. I just don't see any of those signals going in that direction.

We're more likely to see something along the lines of Univision's "Radio H2O" format before another Hip-Hop/R&B. It's where the demographics are going.

Another Rap Hiphop R&B station will not happen Rap Hiphop sucks now not worth it for another one. Now a classic Rap Hiphop R&B station playing mostly traxx from 1988 to 2002 would work

I agree with you 110%. I cant stand new rap but love the 80's and early 90's rap. There is a station out of Phoenix called 101.1 The Beat that is an old school rap station, I listen to them on TuneIn Radio all the time.

A well-programmed and dayparted "churban" station would work in the market, but the issue would be who rather than if it is possible. The station would have target a multicultural audience of a variety of ethnic backgrounds aside from just blacks with on-air personalities.

When Hip Hop comes back from the dead.

I suppose when the market shows there is enough audience to generate ratings. Have you checked the HD-2 offerings? Maybe what you want is on there. It is interesting that the best formats in Houston are only on HD-2's.

Nope, In the year 2525 :D

Here we go with the BS again. And if there are a few hip-hop songs that are actually on the top-40 list, I don't think hip-hop is actually dead.

I suppose that may be soon, since the only Hip-Hop station in town has an 8.7 in PPM and has been the number 1 station in Houston for a few books now.

When advertisers buy advertising on one. When there are African/American owned businesses buying time, then a little bit of crossover business from ad agencies. Until then, not good business to do so.

You failed to mention that those are 6+ numbers which means absolutely nothing. My guess is Hot 95.7 is #1 in 18-34 demo but then again, who knows since KRBE isn't included.

Get used to it. Whenever someone says X format should be in Houston, people on here are quick to shit bricks on your parade.

Let them! I wouldn't care. That's their opinion, just like a 2nd Urban choice in a market with a large african-american population is STILL mine.

And where exactly is KBXX in P18-34, since 6+ numbers "mean absolutely nothing"??
