When will Jay air?/St Louis P.D. article

Thanks to Scott Fybush for the alert on this; article in Sunday's St. Louis
Post Dispatch. If link doesn't work for you, just go to http://www.stltoday.com
and type Severin in the search.

http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/en...C50003B6BC?OpenDocument&highlight=2,"Severin"

When will Severin air on WBZ? (Assuming he will be there and not WTKK)...maybe the show will air (orig. feed) 7-10 pm and stations will run him on tape delay if need be?

>>KMOX listeners got a taste of Severin last week when he filled in for morning personality Charlie Brennan.

Ah, so he has been doing SOME work at least; he hasn't been on-air here since
Sep 15th.

Can he do this even though he's still under contract with Greater Media??

wasn't his contract with wtkk to do a local afternoon show?
wasn't he just replaced there by michael graham?
doesn't that make him a 'free' agent until jan. 3?

talk revolution. jay on wbcn 10-1am. jan. 3.

I think his contract officially expires Dec 31. It probably does not prohibit him
from appearing elsewhere as a "fill in". Am guessing that on or around 1/1,
Jay can officially sign with Infinity and maybe soon afterwards (his show begins
nationwide 1/3) he will start most likely at WBZ.

Despite the Free FM talk, I still think you will not find hot talk on WBCN.
They'll stick to music and put Jay on WBZ.

you didn't get what i was trying to say. if they've already replaced
him at 'tkk, it's most likely because they've terminated his contract.
they're not paying a double salary for graham to work and jay to sit out.
it doesn't work like that.

he's already signed by infinity.

wbcn doesn't have to be officially a free fm to have one or two
talk shows in its schedule. they've done it before. stern, o&a, loveline.

going to bed with jay, waking up with dave.

Oh OK; yes, maybe a buyout of some sort.

But I meant signed by WBZ to carry the show.

Local, Local, Local

WBZ has been and, I believe, will continue to be averse to putting on syndicated programming. I don't think BZ will carry Jay. BZ is local, local, local with small exceptions such as news features like Paul Harvey and Something You Should Know and the Sunday night 60 minutes program. I believe they want to keep there local image. Remember the outrage when Tom Synder and Sally Jesse were replacing David Brudnoy around 1990.

I can't understand why nobody has suggested this possibility (if somebody has, I certainly didn't see it). Severino does a live feed from Sag Harbor for WBZ only from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Eastern. WBZ continues with Sullivan from 9:00 PM to midnight. Severino does his network feed for other Infinity stations from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM Eastern. I believe that fits with the reports posted here of the time of the live network feed. It also keeps WBZ local and fits with the report that Severino's show would "originate" in Boston. (For Infinity's purposes--as was the case for WTKK--Sag Harbor IS in Boston.) And I'll bet that, if this works out as I'm suggesting, WBZ will be responsible for taking the network program off of ISDN and sending it on to the other stations, thus, for Infinity's purposes, WBZ will "originate" the network show. Have I left any bases uncovered?

I'd be very surprised if the show "originates" through WBZ for the network while Sully's on the air locally. That would require studio space and infrastructure that doesn't exist right now at 1170 Soldiers Field Road. There's only one control room with the incoming phone lines to handle a talk show.

Much more likely that the network show will go through Westwood One at the CBS Broadcast Center in Manhattan - plenty of studio space there, and one fewer link to cause problems if something fails (ISDN from Sag Harbor to 524 W. 57th and then fiber to the uplink, rather than ISDN from Sag Harbor to WBZ, ISDN from WBZ to 524 W. 57th and THEN to the uplink.)

Beyond that, the idea of a live Boston show 7-9 and a live national show 9-midnight (or 9-11? The St. Louis article seems to suggest just a two-hour show) isn't unreasonable. It wouldn't require too much additional infrastructure in Sag Harbor - just one more ISDN codec.

All that said, I would STILL be surprised to see the show appear on WBZ at all. It's not broken. Why fix it?<P ID="signature">______________

In a pinch they could route the show through their LaPierre studios in sunny Florida.
