Hey Von, he's Kansas bound and will be freezing his chones off for the next couple weeks. Last I checked its like 4 degrees F, below 0 with the wind chill!

Today's Spanish lesson:

I'm sure both folks were trying to say ''Cojones": [ko'xones] which is a vulgar Spanish word for testicles, corresponding to "balls" or "bollocks".

I hear a lot of English dominant Hispanics use the word chonies to refer to underwear.

How would one freeze their underwear off?

What are "chones?" In Spanish, the only reference is to a province of Ecuador; there is nothing in my Oxford English Dictionary.

There was a Jim Chones, a 6' 11" center who starred at Marquette, and played in both the ABA and NBA. Towards the end of his career, he got a championship ring as a member of the 1980 Lakers.

Well ... KMVN is seeing steady growth in PPM right now. I find myself listening to 93.9 more and 93.1 less - and the PPM numbers seem to show the same. JACK is down significantly in women and that's where MOVIN's growth is coming from. The changes 93.9 has made have been slow and steady. I think their 80's weekends are starting to come together. Considering most of the radio companies have cut down on their external marketing, Emmis has been able to see slight growth here in a very tough time.

I meant what i wrote. "Chones" as in Calzones meaning underwear, a saying used in some parts of Mexico. By the way, CAJONES translates to BOXES or DRAWERS, where did you get TESTICLES from?

He said "cojones" which means "balls."

"Cajón" is not a box (caja) but a "crate" anyway.

I always saw caja used for drawer as in a desk, dresser or especially a cash drawer as in a store.

Having lived in the midwest I can attest to the fact that not only can you freeze your underwear (and pants) off but all of the contents as well. Especially when you get those wind chill factors kicking in.

Same for Buffalo: including, but not limited to; nuts, nads, balls (also as in "eye balls" and "balls of your feet"), fingers, toes, t*ts, nose and ears. Most unique description of the degree of coldness, "he froze his eyelids off waiting for the bus." Must be the lake effect.

So, I see all of the so called know it alls or want to be's got tired of blowing hot air. Movin is still movin --- and on the air. Everyone should be able to put their two cents in --- but most seem to post to this group as if they invented AM and FM radio -- .

How well is that Movin, moving in the ratings? Up a little but it's still mired as one of the lowest rated stations in the market, certainly on FM and is by far the worst programmed station in the history of Los Angeles radio. 3 years and Emmis has lost tens of millions by their moronic moves with this station (plus New York and Chicago, among others). The company won't have much choice soon but to start selling off some of the U.S. properties just to stay afloat. Movin was already on the block before Bonneville decided to buy The Beat at a bargain basement price (which drove L.A. stick prices way downward) instead. So your point is?

The point is that some idiot know it all -- can't just kill off a format or change a stations format because they think that they are better at the game than someone else is. Maybe others like what the station is doing. By all means -- toss your ideas out into the light of day. Just don't push your ideas on the rest of us. You may think that the station is a loss. Maybe it's making lots of cash. After 6 months -- movin hasn't moved. Betting on a station to fail doesn't do any good. It hurts broadcasting. It hurts owners and employees as well as listeners.

Are you a comedian? This station has already been on the block so they don't believe it's a core asset. In fact, it's just the opposite. It is THE station that has dragged Emmis to near death.

Many formats that should change today can't. The loss of even low revenue plus the cost of a startup just can't be justified.

Knowing if a station is billing well or is good in the ratings is easy to see / find. In other circumstances, anyone with a few year's worth of experience could predict format flips or changes.

Sombody is always going to be last, next to last, and so on (speaking of viable signals, of course). Those stations have been the traditional loose cannons in any radio market. Today, it's tough to get our of even a bad situation; the family without a job puts up with the leaky roof.

Unless I'm hugely mistaken, Movin' is probably the biggest failure of a "tested format" this market has had over the past 25 years. If Zapolean et al were not behind the format, it likely would have been gone after six months... Someone at Emmis needs to swallow their pride and admit the error of their ways.

And even though I know whole lot of people out here who are still hugely into radio and music, I've never been able to get a single one to admit they listen to the station on a regular basis.

The numbers have been growing steadily for several months. They are starting to see some daylight - especially in some of the women demos... The slow addition of 80's weekends and then a recent retool of the weekday music has been good for them.

Now that we have PPM, we can watch the shifts on a weekly basis. Six months ago, you might have called it a failure - but they've stuck with it, modified it, and at least its moving in the right direction.

As a listener, it's now one of my top stations since they moved the music - and I know a number of people who agree that the product has improved and find it very listenable.

BTW, most people said they should've stuck with Country - they have about 30% higher shares than KKGO 25-54 adults.

I know a lot of people think they should go Top 40 after KIIS. If they were to flip tomorrow and get 40% of KIIS shares (that would be the high side with really good money put into it), they'd have about the same (or lower) ratings 25-54 than they have now.

I'll give several horribly programmed stations:

KKBT (Rock With A Beat)
KRBV
INDIE
KSCA as a AAA
KQLZ after Scott Shannon left

They're years away, if ever, from ever being a top 3, top 5 or even top 10 in any demo. Tell me how you're going to sell that to any agency? The music was and continues to be a MESS. Jhani Kaye had the 80's/90's right at KBIG under AMFM just before Clear Channel dictated it not compete with KIIS, Emmis does not. This station will have to be unloaded just to keep Emmis from fading into oblivion.

The millions and millions they've lost already does not justify any small increase in ratings. Rick Dees is one of the highest paid morning people in L.A. and doesn't deliver for the cost. With his contract almost up, that has to end, too.
