WHEN WILL KYOT (EVA) REALIZE THEY MESSED UP?

What a horrible call !!

If the Suits are reading this, wake-up! There are big Format-holes in the Market!!

You took a very good sounding AC/Smooth outlet and run a repetitive, stale R&B Oldies format!!??

Terrible music selection and ill-conceived from the very beginning.

Phoenix is not a market able to support 2 R&B flavored oldies stations....Anyone with eye-sight can see that!

Mega, with it's limited signal, is 100 times better and they eek out as much audience as there is for the format.

Either go right back to an AC/Smooth format (ala KTWV/Los Angeles or KIFM/San Diego)....

Or, now that The Edge is gone, a full-signal Alternative format??

What's everyone else think?

I vote for "back to the future".

I miss the old KYOT. I'm basically an Oldies/Classic Rock guy but was actually listening more and more to the old KYOT than KOOL and KLSX. Now I'm back to my flash drive. Everybody loses.

Gosh, doesn't it seem as though the suits are purposely trying to ruin FM radio? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

Much as the Nurse and I prefer the mangy Coyote, EVA works better in the PPM world of ratings. Even low wattage stations and rim shotters in other markets pulled the plug on Smooth Jazz for the same reason. 95~Five is a full power South Mtn stick and the suits want more and better market share. If you're still hung up on the late Coyote, axe yourself this question: how come no one else picked it up? ???

But then of course, COOKIE CUTTER communications won't do that...they'll switch to News/Talk 95.5 KFYI before you know it. Cheap, cheap ways

But, if SJ is brought back, it needs to be a 100% Smooth JAZZ format (with the usual Sade, Anita Baker cuts as well). No Smooth AC with Fergie creeping up on it. It needs to be like it was many years ago.

Check out the latest Ratings in L.A. & San Diego!

Both KTWV and KIFM are #7.....With substantial numbers!

Both sound great!

I wish someone would explain to a crusty old curmudgeon like me who the F "Eva" is? Just like in Tulsa they have "Bob." No wonder radio is in the copper crapper!

Isn't EVA hangin' with EVB these days?

(Nearly Bald One sfx :eek:oooooooooooooooooh)

The former was named by listeners, the latter by Mc12.

Yeah, riiiight!!! Listeners... ::)

EVA already had their domain for EVA before they had their "contest" to name the station.

Well I probably don't need to tell you this, but "Eva" is the latest attempt to anthropomorphize ("to ascribe human form or attributes to...") a radio station. In the absence of actual personalities on the station, the idea was to create a personality for the station itself as a sort of substitute for genuine people on the air. Yet "Eva" is really nothing more than a sightly more advanced version of a positioning statement...something that is (in my humble opinion) becoming less and less relevant in the PPM world.

That's what happens when all the professionals, the real radio people, are replaced by consultants. How about K-DUD?

Eva could work, but it does need a lot of tweaking. They are only playing R&B Old School that crossed over onto the pop charts and nothing more with the exception of "Night Grooves".
How about more specialty shows on the weekends? Playing more "funk" cuts such as: Brass Construction, Brick, Slave, Midnight Star, etc. If Eva had a playlist like Mega, they'd they have them off of the air immediately because they have a better signal.
Also, you have to personalize a station to the market that it is in. Playing Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Cameo isn't going to cut the mustard. If you are going to play those artists, how about DIFFERENT songs they released instead of the same old standbys.

How about more people on the air?

And not just people, but live, local people who are actually interacting with the listeners and (*gasp!*) trying to entertain them?

I mean, a mix show on the weekend would be nice, but a real live person in (for example) the mid day shift during the week would bring more listeners than a weekend mix show could hope for.

Live people on the radio? What are you, a communist or something? :D That would cut into corporate profits!

I love this post! I consider you my Armchair Quarterback In Law.

I think they should change the format again, to ---- oh ----- I don't know ------- Smooth Jazz -yeah that's it!

Seriously, I miss the old "Coyote" and I don't even live in Phoenix anymore. Like the previous comments, it was a great format that apparently was doing okay in the ratings.
Yes, I'm afraid KFYI - 95 is the future.

Or maybe XTRA Sports 95.5. Sports would have more of an appeal to the Sacred Sales DemosTM than the geezer/redneck-talk from Rush, Broomhead, NFBY, and their ilk. KFYI is pretty much targetting the 60-to-room temperature crowd, so why move that audience to FM? Does stuck-in-the-'90s conservative talk even appeal to today's 25-54 crowd?

Interesting to note that KTAR AM has nearly the same rating, share and cume as KTAR FM, so Keith may be on to something there.

Bring back Gambo and Ash!
