When Will THe Analog Nightlight Service End?

So, I am curious, When do the local stations pull the plug on their Analog Nightlight Service? It is almost one month after the big DTV switch of June 12.

The 2 stations in Fresno KSEE 24 only did it for about 10 days and KSNO 51 ended a few days ago.

I wonder if any analog or nightlight TV stations even carried the Michael Jackson memorial service a few days ago...

Nightlighting stations only air DTV info. Unless there are ABC NBC CBS stations that have towers in Baja CA.

I thought I read that if there was breaking news or weather, the station could carry that on analog. Though I felt that Jacko's death very hardly qualifies as breaking news.

Most of the night light stations are already gone. If I am not mistaken, I believe the last of them will sign off July 12. In my area, (Atlanta) WGCL-TV shut down its night light service two weeks ago. I still see one or two night light stations in far away markets via E-skip.

Yes, Sunday July 12th is the last day of nightlight service. I'm 99% sure they're allowed to continue all day Sunday, signing off at midnight going into Monday morning.

As Larry says, most are already gone. I would say a majority only committed to two weeks' nightlight service and went off on June 26th. Denver is still on; I received both KCNC and KRMA nightlight signals yesterday morning.

KDKA 2 and WTAE 4 were still running it when I checked on Tuesday. Local rumor is that will end tomorrow. KD did interrupt it once for coverage of severe storms and flooding, I doubt that they would have for Michael Jackson.

Thus endeth the television career of Mike DiSerio. I wonder if he will toss his name in the hat for the Billy Mays gig?

Do they run legal ID's? Were you able to tell whose nightlights they were?

I certainly hope it was not one of those danged Nightlight Pirates! :D

I'm not sure about full power station's, but; if it is a low power tv station, they are not required to shut off
their analog signal, even if they also broadcast in digital also.

Locally here in Chicago WWME-CA, is still on the air, and to the best of my knowledge, will be for a while.
Low Power TV station's probably have about 2 years before they are required to go all digital.

They made an agreement with two other station's to run their newscast's at 5,6, and 10 PM, and they are
running their own programming the rest of the day. They felt it was important to keep one station on the
air for the people who were still not prepared for the switchover. They are also one of the most powerful
of the LPTV station's in Chicago, with a signal that cover's most of the Chicago metro well.

I think it was a very smart move on their part, although we have known this was coming for quite sometime,
their were quite a few senior citizen's that were not ready.

I just went and checked on an old TV, I haven't used since the switch over, and they are running the news
from NBC 5 here in Chicago and the picture is perfectly clear.

Both of Sacramento's Nightlights are still going strong KCRA-3 and KVIE-6. I will be listening to FM 87.7 to HEAR the signoff of KVIE Channel 6.

Houston's KPRC/2 still has its nightlight on. They had previously announced that it would stay up through July 12. Wonder how many distant viewers have seen it during good tropo or skip conditions?

In Phoenix, KTVK 3 was supposed to end July 12 and KPHO 5 June 26; however, both ended nightlight on June 26.

In Tucson, KMSB 11 ended June 26, as planned, and KUAS 27 is supposed to run through June 12. Last I saw, they were still running nightlight programming.

Also, low-power analog Channel 23 WWME-CA is now airing fulltime the WCIU programming (except for the WMAQ and WGN newscasts).

The station is no longer airing 'MeTV' (classic reruns) anymore, instead simulcasting the programming of their full-power parent station.

I checked this morning. KLEE, uh, I mean, KPRC-TV is gone forever from analog channel 2.

WBZ Channel 4 appears to be gone from the Boston dial.

Channels 2 and 5 are still on.

Though someone in England will continue to watch it for another three years or so. ;D
