WHEN WILL THE BAY GET OLDIES/CLASSIC HITS BACK?

It works and works very well in San Diego, L.A. , Riverside/San Bernardino, Palm Springs, Phoenix....Sacramento has 2 of them battling it out!.....Even Monterey/Santa Cruz just got lucky, as a Hip-Hop station just flipped to 60's & 70's Oldies! The Top-40 sound of the 60's & 70's has seen a huge resurgence!

What are Alice or KITS or KBWF waiting for?

Isn't this an obvious one?

THE BAND is lifeless, dull and rock-driven! Same old retread, boring stuff....Had a small ratings spike for a short time, now right back down!

Bay Area radio used to be an innovator in radio....slightly ahead of the curve and always full of variety??

Why cant James Gabbert come out of retirement, and give the Bay-Area some real radio,,, this guy is Good! Hey James are you out there? I would like to have something like the KIOI Time machine, 30 years ago 1050 AM, we enjoyed Steve Jordan, and Bill Holley on the Time Machine,, Gabbert really knows how to program an Oldies station,, he ought to , hes been here since 1957. The guys an expert! Kenny in Concord

Kenny, the answer to your question is: because he doesn't want to or have to. Gabbert made enough money on the sale of KOFY-TV to live comfortably for the rest of his life. He fills in on KGO and KOFY-TV to have some fun, and he probably donates the money he receives to his favorite charity.

Plus - I'm sure if James came back, he would only want to do it as independent broadcaster and owner, not as an employee of some big corporation like Clear Channel. Needless to say, that's much harder to do these days, considering what broadcasting has become...not to mention the state of the economy.

Is this thread an oldie-but-goodie that popped back up with the wrong date on it? It seems like I've read this topic and these replies here before...

It's like deja vu all over again! :D

Please, let's get the terminlogy correct. This topic is not an "Oldie," it's a "Classic Hit."

And if there's a "dead horse" to be found, we here at the San Francisco board will "flog" it. ;D

well i think boss radios KYA is the best for oldies really. I wish i was around to hear KYA,KEWB, and the Big 610. 106.9 KFRC is the best Ive heard in my 13 years

My dumb. I withdraw my earlier comment and, in its place, ask: is this topic an oldie Classic Hit-but-goodie that popped back up with the wrong date on it?

Couldn't agree more. Not only one of the most boring playlists ever, but its existence has nudged KFOG into playing things like "Sweet Home Alabama" 17 times a week, and the Bone is playing the Eagles, for cryin' out loud -- something once unthinkable at that station.

As to KFRC 1550, it's better than I expected it to be (musically speaking) but really, the audience for old -- er, I mean "Classic Hits" deserves stereo and a better signal.

Ha Ha Ha Hee Hoo Hoo Hee Hee Ha Ha ;D
whats wrong with am 1550 the music is good(altough it is wierd having the same jock all the time)

Yeah - I know when I listen to Classic Hits, I want to hear them in low fidelity monaural sound with lots of static and interference. It takes me nostalgically back to those days in the mid 1960s when I had to listen to AM Top 40 radio on a $6 "transistor" radio with a 1 inch speaker.

When I got my first ipod, I stomped on the earbuds a few times so it would sound like crap. When I bought my premium sound system, I threw away one of the Bose speakers and poured water in the other one so it would sound like AM radio.

Yes - there's nothing as great as AM quality sound.

What you hear on CBS' version of our once legendary KFRC is what that corporation
COULD FIND TO PUT ON THE AIR FREE. Finally, they have their perfect on-air
staff/content - unsalaried.

As for their "same old tired DJ," he's Scott Shannon, badly miscast, overexposed,
monotone - he now sounds like some pissed-off old fart yelling at youngsters from the
shadows of his porch. He proves for us all there is no lasting power for a one-man show.

It would be surprising how much better that radio would sound with just a little professional
presentation in the mix. But that's NEVER going to happen. Because money is involved, and
with CBS is in charge of your old favorite radio station, listeners - you - ain't worth it.

Forget About it. Just find a web station that airs oldies and Classic hits with a good DJ let AM and FM radio fight over who gets which talk show host.

Very good point. Try KZQZ-AM 1430. When I last listened 1-2 months ago it was 50's & 60's oldies with live Dee jays.
