When Will The Lite Go On For WLIT

Seeing how the ratings dropped from the Holiday ratings to the current ratings, WLIT needs to retool. Every place I went to during the Christmas season was playing the Holiday Lite. Today they have turned off the Lite. I see that WLYF in South Florida just dropped their play list of current AC and went back to Lite Relaxing Songs! Will someone turn on the Light Bulb at WLIT and show them the way? Unless they play Christmas Tunes all year round, their ratings are in the basement. If you want to see your numbers rise, start playing Easy Relaxing Music. Doctor offices, Restaurants, and businesses would all begin to listen to your station just like during the holidays.

Here's an idea--Rock & Roll oldies from the 50s thru the 70s. Nobody else is doing it.

I could go for a more WFEZ-type playlist. Maybe a few more currents ("Somebody That I Used to Know", "Skyfall", ect) that are softer, but I think that an SuperSoft AC is viable, with the right promotion and setup.

Here are the last few songs listed on WFEZ's playlist.

7:24 a.m.
Sailing
Christopher Cross
7:15 a.m.
Now and Forever
Richard Marx
7:11 a.m.
Midnight Train to Georgia
Gladys Knight & The Pips
7:06 a.m.
Careless Whisper
George Michael
7:02 a.m.
I Will Always Love You
Whitney Houston
6:55 a.m.
Lyin' Eyes
Eagles
6:48 a.m.
I Just Can't Stop Loving You
Michael Jackson & Siedah Garrett
6:43 a.m.
Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me
Elton John & George Michael
6:38 a.m.
I Could Fall in Love
Selena
6:34 a.m.
If Ever You're in My Arms Again
Peabo Bryson
6:31 a.m.
We Just Disagree
Dave Mason

They could go back to the lite songs as you suggested, easy listening and throw in a couple smooth jazz tunes. No one else is doing that either.

I'd take either. I do miss the oldies as well.

Check out KTWV playlist. Easy Relaxing songs with Smooth Jazz thrown in. I would love to see a WFEZ or KTWV playlist on the Lite 93.9.

This station has some of the worst audio processing I've heard on a large/major market AC. Sounds like something straight out of 1992. Quite honestly, it is difficult to distinguish this station from any run-of-the-mill AdCon station found in markets 100 - 150.

I do not think retooling the station to make it more amenable to the Geritol crowd is the right way forward, though. I'd do just the opposite. I would pattern it after Atlanta's B98.5.

Well, that was the route that WLIT was going toward as of recently. I think that, if done well, a WSB-type AC could work. But, whether they go more modern or soft, WLIT needs to be fixed.

I love WFEZ's playlist. Nice easy relaxing tunes. Maybe the Light Bulb will go on for the powers to be at 93.9 FM and they will see the LIGHT. Their mix of so many genres is confusing to the listener. Keep to lite easy favorites and watch the numbers sky rocket. KTWV is another great station with its mix of relaxing love songs and smooth jazz.
Both can be winners here in Chicago.

In bold above, 6 of the 11 songs you posted above are played on K-Hits and/or WLS already, usually in fairly frequent rotation. Why do you want another station playing the same stuff (I don't dare say what I think of it, other than 'Lyin Eyes' by the Eagles). So why do you want a 3rd major market station playing it?

And Y-1039 also played 5 of those same 6 above (Careless Whsiper wasn't in their playlist), and just changed formats because that "greatest hits of all time" format is beginning to get worn out!

And Jazz? Who the heII wants to listen to Jazz other than about 5 of you here? No one! I sure as heck don't! Put jazz on a station and it's taken off the presets on any of my radios, as well as about 90% of the Chicagoland area! I won't deny that it had a loyal following, but that loyal following wasn't pulling in WGN type numbers either! Jazz was such a strong format that WNUA went spanish, along with every other station that went spanish in this town.

KTWV is not even in the top 20 station in 25-54 in LA, where the lifestyle would seem to favor that kind of format. I don't see it winning in Chicago if it can't make headway in a market where "The Wave" has been a brand since 1987.

Maybe they should copy KESZ (99.9 KEZ) from Phoenix. I've been listening to them for a few hours online ...not too bad of a station for an AC.
They can go as upbeat as "DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love" by Usher to mellow-70's as "Fire and Rain" by James Taylor. And they're #1 in their market.
WLIT probably should avoid "You Give Love a Bad Name" by Bon Jovi ..... let Rewind, WLS, or K-Hits play songs like that.
(I live NJ now but grew up listening to Chicago stations). Or WLIT should just go as light as WDUV from Tampa. People in Chicago would
would probably tune in just to be shocked to hear Barry Manilow or Neil Sedaka for the first time on the radio in decades.   ???

I do agree the overall numbers would probably go up. The problem is this is a Cheap Channel station. The numbers it would attract would be 50+ they don't want that, they would rather take small slices of 25-54 women from WTMX and sister WILV. They also own WVAZ and WKSC which helps for sales reasons.

In the radio sales game a 1 share 25-54 is worth more than a 5 share in 50+

Radio isn't about you it's about money, that is not an insult and I don't like this fact, it is the truth sadly.

There are a lot of people who don't have a place to call home in Chicago which is unfortunate, because this is a very loyal group who's only crime is being over 50.

In Chicago if this did happen it would only happen on a signal challenged station, likely on AM. The Lite has dropped the bulb from their logo and now has the generic pinkish
font used on stations across the nation so this is not something they would do.

I would like a station that you described happen, it will never make a lot of money or rank high in important demos, I do feel if it was done right with a hard working sales
staff it could turn a profit. This would not be the kind of profit acceptable to the big guys. A small station owner could and are doing this or a variation of it in smaller
markets.

To expand on what I said about radio not being about us. Radio is from what I see more and more is about taking as much cash out now and hoping they can still do it for
a few more years. They don't see that for radio to survive in my opinion they need to learn how to make money off of an older audience and must find a way to get 15 year old to listen for the future. Some of radio's problems today are just part of changing technology and not there fault. A lot is there fault as you have mentioned
they've gutted the stations to the point that they are a computer in a closet with 7 classic rock station's 4 sports stations 5 talk station"s and so on.

There is no room for creativity, it is making money for people in Texas and New York and to those people it does not matter. The government mad a big mistake in 96 and we are all paying a price for that now.

Maybe Lite Fm Should be W_IT "Your Noel (NO L) Station! Christmas Music 24/7! That may help their downward ratings!

Good Luck to their new GM. Would be nice to bring on Love Songs and Easy Listening like WFEZ.
