When will we recieve KOA-FM?

With the trend across the country of big-talker AM's simulcasting their mostly conservative opinions to co-owned FM properties, it is about time the Big 850 spread Caldera & Co. to the stereophonic band? And which FM frequency in ClearChannel's arsenal would work? Personally, since I bet Denver is about partied out on 95.7, a future KOA-FM would make Rosen sound more rosier!

Just my humble opinion, folks!

Obviously you don't remember the old KOAQ-FM 103.5 (Otherwise known as Q-103 & Now KRFX 103.5 The Fox). It was s Soft Rock/AC station (The best one in Denver on FM at the time as the only other two notable ones were KHOW-AM 630 & KIMN-AM 950).

KPPL was the only other FM Soft AC in Denver during the mid to late 1970s. It was on 107.5 (Where KQKS is today).

As far the chances of KOA landing on an FM stick today are concerned, I'd have to say that THE ONLY way that'll happen is IF Clear Channel is STUPID enough to sell KOA to Wilkes, who would promptly put it on 100.3 (Yeah right, like CC is gonna let THAT happen? I think not)

And you can forget about Entercomm landing KOA. That ain't happening. Entercomm is Clear Channel's BIGGEST competitor in Denver

Cheers :D

Let me explain again what I had posted...with the proliferation of co-ownwed FM's being simulcasted on their talker AM's (KSL-Salt Lake City, WBAP-Ft. Worth/Dallas and recently KMBZ-Kansas City), my only discussion was when will KOA-AM simulcast there signal on one of their 5 co-owned FM signals. KOA has a very excellent chance of simulcasting and rebranding one of their FM's into KOA-FM. Entercom in Kansas City was able to take off the the air, a long-standing AC station (KUDL-FM) and simulcast their AM News-Talk AM yacker, and relabled KMBZ-FM. Belo has their 96.7 signal aligned with their 820 signal in Ft. Worth/Dallas. KSL-AM/FM have been simulcasting for at least two years. The ONLY WAY that KOA 850 would simulcast their AM broadcast on FM is if they flip their least-profitable FM's and go through the FCC process of branding their co-owned FM, as KOA-FM and, whala...Rush in stereo! Whether that is good or bad, we will see, since this is pretty much a new process, reborn again.

That answer is easy.....

THE 32ND DAY OF NEVER

Problem with that here in Denver is all the FM sticks Clear Channel owns are either HIGHLY rated (KTCL, KBCO & KRFX) or have a heritage following of VERY loyal niche younger audiences which a yakker like KOA would turn off (KPTT & KBPI)

KOA's ONLY chance of landing on FM is via HD Radio

Cheers :D

The only way for news /Talk stations to get a younger audience is to move the format to FM. Young demos just don't bother with AM.

Here in Portland, CC has added a 99 watt translator at 102.3 MHz simulcasting 1190 KEX. They are in competition with locally owned KXL which moved from AM 750 to 101.1 with 100kW.

Younger audiences won't even bother tuning into a potty mouth like Rush Limbaugh either.

Progressive talker KKZN has a much better chance of surviving on FM than either of the Conservative talkers in Denver do. Only question is WHERE to put KKZN on FM though.....

Actually,
Citadel Owns 96.7 & 820
Belo owns WFAA-TV ABC 8,
but WFAA and 820 have a strong relationship
because they are both ABC affiliates.

96.7 was flipped because it was failing in every format they tried, and it doesn't really have the best DFW Coverage, but it was still a smart move to help attract younger listeners.

:D *applause* :D

And can't imagine anyone sane wanting to listen to Michael Savage.

Only problems with KKZN is 1) nothing during the peak listening times (except the local hosts) is live and 2) the local hosts are wrong for their time slots.

We need Stephanie Miller in the morning and Sirota should be doing evenings after Randi Rhodes. Like Alan Combs to a certain extent but....

But AM has to do something for locals who can't be plugged into a smartphone streaming all day to hear intelligent talk. It's becoming more and more impossible to listen to AM. Computer cpu's interfere with AM signals (and a lot of jobs won't let you stream). iPods and other mp3 players can't include the AM band because of the proximity to the hard drive within. If you use public transportation - the light rail, buses, even the free tram at the 16th Street Mall - the electric interference from all of these makes it impossible to pick up an AM signal.

Trouble finding an FM station to use?
Here is what is happening in lots of places:
You create or obtain a translater, only needs to be two (2) channels away from a "real" station.
With 250 watts at an unlimited height, they cover metro's as well as class A's.
Want to split the feeds for an important game or run different spots on the AM and the translater?
No prob, just send the modified feed to your full power FM's HD-3 and translate it.
We put this on the SF board a few days ago

Speaking of our local "progressive" radio station....

Where did they find the snarky Tea Party Member who's running their website?

As I write this, there's a video of the Agriculture Sect. with the caption "Yes, Tom Vilsack actually calls the food stamp program an “economic stimulus.”"....

Yes. As does Randi Rhodes and anyone who has looked at the numbers that shows that for every dollar of Unemployment, food stamps or other federal aid $1.75 goes back into the economy (because people in need spend whatever money they get). And people buying things create jobs!!!

The caption is straight out of Faux News.

And then another photo caption takes glee in some Tea Bagger talking to Rush about confronting Obama....

Amazing.
