When WINZ Flips back to Sports... the AM options are?

Dan Sileo - which CC is shoving down everyone's throat in the state of Florida. He was on originally in Orlando. Then he was pushed on what was once a great sports station in WDAE in Tampa. He's back on in Jax after the D-Day blasted Former Jax Columnist David Lamm (Sileo was on for a short time there in 07 I believe). He was on 940 when it was WRFX for a short time as well. He's possibly, the worst morning drive guy I've ever heard. Heck, I'd say he he doesn't even belong on in the day time in a major market. So, based on that... the chances are CC will have him on in the AM ;D

Jeff DeForrest - Local Sports Talker that has bounced around a lot over the last couple of years. He's run into some personal issues that have been well documented. He still has his moments, but I'd say overall he's become a caricature of himself. He does bring some clients with him like JM Lexus, so I can see CC making a money grab & hiring him.

Mike & Mike - I know that they already will have Premiere/FSR programming, but I'm sure ESPN would love to clear their signature show on a 50k day time signal in Miami. It also, makes sense b/c no one can hear them on WFLL 1400. It would also give 940 the ESPN PxP packages and that means more syndication which is the most cost effective plan. This is certainly an option I believe.

I was hoping Kevin Rogers would've found a spot there but he was just on QAM. I would think Marks-Peltz will have some kind of weeknight show when The Heat aren't on.

When it comes to Mike and Mike, ESPN Radio seems able to strong-arm them onto FSR affiliates and force them to drop the FSR affiliation altogether. Sportstalk 980 in DC threw Steve Czaban off for Mike and Mike (who were already on two other AM signals in the market), which cost Czabe his flagship station.
 
940 will be 100% Fox. No live, local morning show (although they could keep Imus since he was on WFAN in NY for years and I'm sure CC Miami is being paid to clear his show.) Heat will be on 940. Gators move from 850 to 940. Absolutely no local talent. This is all about $$, not ratings.

940 had Fox Sports sometime back and dumped them. No ratings. Why would this time be any different? Fox is being pulled off 640. And that station gets no rating from Fox Sports either.

ESPN would not lose the WQAM connection, even if they dont clear all their programming.

If you think ESPN wouldn't put their flagship show on 940 b/c of QAM? You know nothing about network radio. You think ESPN Radio wants to clear Mike & Mike or Up All Night w/ Jason Smith? Is that even debatable? Come on. Also, QAM won't care b/c all they carry is overnight & weekend programming. And, if they do... tough. They won't have any options or leverage.

Fox/Premiere/Clear Channel are in bed together. They clear the programming they are told to clear.

Dont be surprised if Rome shows up on WINZ either since his distribution deal is through Premiere.

They will absolutely take Jim Rome & Dan Patrick & FSR, but they will take Mike & Mike before they take FSR AM Drive programming and CC will allow it.

in 2004, CC owned 790 The Animal (KMBE) ran Mike & Mike & ESPN Radio b/c the PD didn't want FSR. The only reason that station was forced to switch to FSR was b/c ESPN Radio came into the market 17 months later on KFNC-FM.

The programmer on the station in Houston was named Ken Charles. The programmer in charge of WINZ is (ahem) Ken Charles.

Mike & Mike is the ESPN jewel, and they get numbers in most markets.

Ken Charles is a long time CC soldier & will take FSR, but will get what he wants in the AM which is Mike & Mike. If they force him to take anything it'll be Sileo (God help us), b/c they can play it off as local/regional like they do w/ Schnitt on WIOD.

BTW: KFAN in Minneapolis is a CC station that runs ESPN Radio. WTEM 980 in DC was also a Mike & Mike station before Daniel Snyder's Red Zebra Broadcasting came into the market with ESPN Radio. Then they later bought WTEM from CC shortly after. There are a few others in smaller markets.

Who is it that doesn't know anything about network radio? Certainly, not me.

So, my question is... what is it YOU THINK you know about network radio?
 
Inside info: Fox Sports pulled their programming from 640 only because the "other station" guaranteed they would run more programming from the network than 640. It's in the contract. So, since 640 ran ALL Fox Sports except 6am-9am morning show and 12n-3pm Jim Rome, then that means they MUST be planning to run all Fox all the time.
(Dan Patrick, which is/was on 640 from 9am-12n is now part of Fox Sports.)

FSR pulled their programming b/c they're owned by Premiere who's owned by CC. It has ZERO to do with programming. Tell Steve Lapa to come up with another excuse. Let him know that DeFo can still do his morning show when they flip to Air America in a few months.

Technically it's 4 if you count ESPN Deportes on WOCN. I haven't seen it show up in any of the books but could that have an impact at some point?
 
Miami can barely support two sportstalk stations. Having a total of 4 stations in the market is overkill. If CC goes ahead with flipping 940 AM, it most likely will be for cost cutting measures. They could care less how many stations have the same format. Its purely pathetic that they would try fighting over a very small piece of the sports radio pie. CC easily forgets how they failed the first time with sports on 940 almost four years ago. What makes them think that they will be any better the second time around? An automated station without local programming stands no chance vs. two established sports talk stations with local hosts. CC is better off with progressive talk that they have now.

OK so it sound like if they switch to sports they're just basically running computer programming just to keep the transmitter running.
Ratings simply won't matter.
