Whens the Next LPFM filing window

Anyone have any idea if the FCC is going to take apps for LPFM again? I was just at the FCC site again, and no info... Anybody have any updates??

Probably never. I wish the situation were different, but it is a realistic answer. We still haven't seen the LP-10 window. After the next NCE window and the frozen Translator applications are settled, there won't be much left.

Maybe if enough people would write the FCC, they might consider expanding FM radio into TV channel six, which will be open frequencies in most of the country.

Oops. Reality check.... They will sell it off to the highest bidder. It is all about money.

What Chuck wrote is all too sad but true. A recent article in Broadcasting & Cable reported on the annual Federal Communications Bar dinner and some of Chairman Kevin Martin's " jokes" as he was speaking to the guests.

Here was one:

"Calling him "the professor of our group" and "Dr. Copps," Martin said Commissioner Michael Copps had done an "extraordinary job of rallying his troops on the media ownership review," flashing a picture of Copps as Elvis for his appearance at a Nashville public hearing on media ownership, then as The Pope addressing "the faithful in Columbus," the site of a town meeting on ownership.

Then came the kicker: "Can you imagine the crowd he'd get if the FCC were actually going to do anything on media ownership."

That pretty much sums up the FCC's attitude on a number of issues, including LPFM.

A10:

I don't expect LPFM windows to open anytime in the near future.

For anyone looking into full-power NCE, that window will begin on October 12 (Columbus Day)
this year.
