Where are the new hits for 2010?

Here we are halfway through April, and most CHR stations are still playing pretty much the exact same stuff they were in December 2009. Now usually the charts of the first month or two of the new year are still dominated by the previous years hits, but I have never seen it played out this long. New stuff has coming out but it hasn't been good enough to catch on in the way Tik Tok and Bad Romance (two of the most played out songs now) have so the CHR stations pretty much ignore it. Anybody else notice this trend? Anybody else think CHR radio is still stuck in late '09?

I see what you mean. If you look at RI's CHR chart, I see only 8 songs in the Top 20 with less than a dozen weeks on the chart. Most notable are Rihanna's "Rude Boy" at #5 and BOB's "Nothin On You" at #7; both have been on the chart for 7 weeks. Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now" is #2 in its 11th week on the chart. Didn't Beatles' songs go to #1 within a month back in the day?

Here are a couple I think you'll be hearing well through the summer:

Taio Cruz - Break Your Heart
Jason Derulo - In My Head
Lady Gaga -Alejandro
Ke$ha - Your Love Is My Drug

I kind of agree with this but I'm not sure if it's just anecdotal and not unlike last year, or the year before, etc.

Jason Derulo - In My Head was being played everywhere in my area in fall 2009. I think it came out in September.

Nonetheless, more new stuff is finally starting to hit this month. Its about time.

Sometimes even faster than that. But they also often dropped from the charts within a month.

Good point. And the chart process and methodology is very different nowadays compared to the 60's and 70's.

Yes it is. Soundscan and BDS took over management of Billboard rankings beginning the week of November 30, 1991. Easy for me to remember because that was the week of my 28th birthday.
