Where are the novelty songs?

I heard Adam Sandler's Hanukkah Song on a country station yesterday! WXXK Lebanon, NH. And yes, it's technically too early to be playing it, by about a week.

Not a big fan of "Grandma....," but it definitely lent itself well to parodies. This one is a favorite of mine, although this particular version has slightly altered lyrics from what I remember:

This one has lyrics the way that I remember them, but this one is pitched too high:

If you absolutely HAVE to listen to "Grandma", I recommend The Irish Rovers.

I can only wish the Chipmunks and "War is Over" were to also be shuffled to the archives.
I assume with "War Is Over", you actually mean the 1971, Top 10 social comment Christmas hit "Happy Christmas (War Is Over)" by John (Lennon) and
Yoko (Ono) and The Plastic Ono Band with The Harlem Community Choir. The producers are listed as John & Yoko and Phil Spector. The original single came with a picture sleeve showing members of the choir. It was pressed on green vinyl. I still like hearing it. The B-side, while credited to John & Yoko/Plastic Ono Band is, vocally, a Yoko solo song called "Listen, The Snow is Falling". It's a slow, soft pleasant piece in which her thin, somewhat shaky, vocal performance is ok.

Pertaining to the B-side, "Listen The Snow Is Falling", I, actually, was only half right. While the actual label on the vinyl is credited to "John & Yoko /Plastic Ono Band, the picture sleeve for "Listen The Snow Is Falling" is credited to Yoko Ono The Plastic Ono Band.

The name of The Plastic Ono Band was their way of letting people know that it wasn't a traditional band, with a set membership. Different musicians played with/for John & Yoko each time the "Plastic Ono Band" was needed.

Why is it that most novelty holiday songs have disappeared from the radio?
WOCL here in Orlando has avoided holiday music all month but seems to be playing one an hour today. I caught the end of 'Grandma' in the car this morning and see the following on their playlist for the day:

Blue Christmas
Porky Pig
1:21 pm

Santa And His Old Lady
Cheech & Chong
12:20 pm

Elmo & Patsy
Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer
11:09 am

He was fortunate. I haven't heard it in years.

As I recall, Dr. Johnny Fever said that song meant Merry Christmas to him.
For what it's worth (and not much), I have a Singing Dogs 45 on RCA Records called "Hot Dog Boogie" / "Hot Dog Rock And Roll". Silly and annoying are the two words I can think of about the record. Officially, the name of the "performers" are "Don Charles Presents THE SINGING DOGS Directed by Carl Weismann With Instrumental Accomp." The records were made in the 1950s and successfully re-issued in the very early 1970s.

I wonder... If I played the songs with a dog in the room, would I get reaction from the dog? I might try it New Years Eve or New Years Day if my Goddaughter brings her puppy over for a family get-together.

I nearly got through the entire season without hearing The chipmunks, which would have been a shame.

I had the opportunity to walk in a local mall where there were lots of trees decorated by businesses, churches and organizations. I think people were supposed to vote on them. And there was music playing beside the trees. I saw a pile of CDs.

I was listening to The Peak 107.1 on Christmas Eve until Noon Christmas Day. They had a great mix of unusual Christmas music, which even included the singing/barking dogs with Jingle Bells. At Noon on 12/25 they switched to all acoustic rock/AAA music. The River 92.5 Boston also had a more AAA leaning offering of Christmas music and traditional Holiday tunes that allowed listeners to escape the usual repetition. On one of the stations (I think it was Jimmy Fink) I even heard the story behind Bing Crosby & David Bowie's Peace on Earth duet.

Denny Brownlee is the voice on Blue Christmas as Seymour Swine, not Porky Pig. Here, Denny interviews himself and the story behind the song.
