Where can I download older music?

I work at a Canadian top 40 station, and we get all of our new music from playMPE and DMDS.

If we need older music...stuff we should already have in our library, but for some reason we never added, we download it from itunes.

The problem is that most of it is album versions. If there are curse words they're not edited, or maybe they're 5 mins when the radio edit would be 3 mins etc.

Is there a service that offers older radio cuts for download?

*I should note, we only need a few random tracks, and not a whole library. I understand TM Century and a few others offer full libraries, but we need to pick and choose random tracks.

If you are willing to spend money, and you want the single versions of songs, then http://www.tmstudios.com/golddisc.asp.

You should be able to pick and choose the list of songs you want. That's how I did it when I bought my library from them several years ago. I didn't want one of their pre-selected libraries.

FYI: If you are needing single versions of songs be aware there as a bunch of edits on the TM discs that aer inaccurate attempts to re-create the single. If you're just looking for music TM is a decent source either on CD or digital.

Dave Dworkin's Radio-Mall absorbed the assets of Halland Broadcast which is another source for music for licensed broadcasters.

Rhapsody...$15 a month. You should be editing to your own station's standards anyway.

Rhapsody is lossy file formats. Just what you do not need for on air audio. And DRM issues with it. TM Studios or Broadcast Mall is a much better option.

True. I only stream on the web...no TR. I convert all my files from Rhapsody .wma to .mp3 with Sound Taxi. There are no DRM issues.

And converting lossy files to other lossy file formats makes poor sound quality and cascading algorithms. Use MP2 for a lossy medium which is better suited for broadcast and streaming.

Seems like it's important for you to be right, t. Spell check...look into it.
