Kudos to 94.9. One of the most difficult music programming chores is Christmas music. Heck there are only a handful of titles. Everyone has recorded these songs. The tempo matches, old to new, and selection is very well done. Their time spent listening has to be huge this time of year. They could, however, mix in some more instrumentals. Not hearing Steamroller, Trans Siberian, etc. Also, this time of year you can get away with going back and playing Ella and others of years gone by in addition to the obligatory Bing, Burl, Autry, and the like. In my opinion, job well done 94.9

I have to agree. A job well done.
However... It's just not Christmas without Bob abd Doug Mackenzie's "Twelve Days Of Christmas", or Cheech and Chong's "Santa Claus And His Old Lady Commune". The Kinks' Father Christmas always brings a tear to my eye as well.

(Yes, everybody knows that Drunken Punkin still misses YNF at 94.9)

Merry Christmas everybody!

Yes, I'll agree too. I rarely listen to 94.9 because I'm tired of hearing that they are "NEW" and that they are "VOTED #1" for everything in my workday. However, when the Xmas music starts, that's all our kids want to hear when in the car. My wife is a loyal QYK listener (although their current morning show might be pushing her toway 103.5) but during the Xmas music season she listens to 94.9 most of the time.

In a tree!!!

Ok, there has to be a music director out there somewhere who thinks that it's a Christmas miracle that we are doing his job for him. You are welcome. Please tell us what station you work for. Since we are selecting the best of the best Christmas music for you, we at least deserve the opportunity to listen to it.

Add to the list anything from the Bob Rivers Christmas Album. I personally enjoy "Walkin 'Round In Women's Underwear".

Um... er... I mean... uh... the song. Yeah, that's it. The song.

Its so much easier these days. Back in the day (cough), 1984, before the "Very Special Christmas" compilations came out, almost every pop station had few choices for holiday fare:

Dean/Frank/Sammy/Bing/Cole/Mathis/Clooney lps...

Mancini/Mantovani/Mitch Miller...

50s and 60s Country artists, including those that had been already passed on for 20 years like Jim Reeves and Patsy Cline...

The one off holiday singles from rockers like Elton John, John Lennon and Paul McCartney, through the MTV crowd like Billy Squier, etc

John Denver and the Muppets.

Christmas Motown

Christmas Phil Spector

Mostly good stuff, but the challenge was to keep that fresh for 25 days......
