Where Did Everyone Go?

Last post in Dallas-Fort Worth happened almost a month ago... Is there nothing going on in Dallas radio?

- It's been a long time since we had a big format flip.

- This is the final week of Rush on very longtime affiliate WBAP. His "legacy" clip show has found new homes in some markets. Haven't heard anything here though.

- Will KVIL be the first station Audacy gives up on with "alternative"?

- Has there been any update on KESN since the Cumulus LMA was not renewed?

- Will Hot ever give way to a usable Ticket signal in Dallas County?

I've been wondering the same thing.

Listening to 103.3 the other night before the Mavericks game aired, it seems they had no local spots at all. Granted it was a Saturday night at 7pm, but still no local spots at all. I wonder do the Mavericks have an out clause in their contract. I know the local NBA team is not happy with a radio station that can't help with any local marketing. You would think they will find a new radio home soon, especially if the impass with Sinclair Broadcasting goes on into next season. It just seems the Mavericks options are limited if they want to stay on a FM radio station.

most likely, Rush Limbaugh's show could move over to iHeart's 1190 AM since they own Premiere which syndicates the show.

i can see them moving to either 97.1 The Eagle due to their Ben & Skin ties, WBAP/Ticket/KLIF or The Fan/KRLD where the Mavs can air on the sports talkers on days they don't conflict with other team's event (if the Ticket, then WBAP or KLIF airs them on days where the Ticket airs Stars games, or if The Fan, airs on KRLD if conflicts with Cowboys or Rangers games). i think KLIF might end up being the best fit for them so it won't conflict with WBAP's airing of Mark Levin or Chris Krok or when severe weather happens, WBAP's need to inform the area via EAS & Brad Barton's weather coverage or conflict with KRLD's evening lineup as well.

KGEL may be the best bet. iHeart does have the Spurts in San Antonio and the Rockets/Astros in Houston. Cumulus and Audacy may be SOL if the Mavericks want to stay on FM. The Mavericks may not want to share a radio home with another sports franchise, unless they get priority, which will not happen on 105.3 or 96.7/1310. Would Audacy offer up 103.7? Maybe, but iHeart can give the Mavericks 97.1 plus all the other stations in the cluster for marketing efforts.

Could be. I'm guessing they'll just give up altogether in Dallas and try a different format, but we'll see. I wonder what happens to Church of Lazlo. His numbers weren't too great before the change in KC, and I wonder if he'll go back to being a local DJ or gone altogether...

"Audacity" need to restore dignity to a heritage station, and flip formats. To what? I don't have an answer, but what they're doing is not working.

i think what they out to do is flip it to a format that will work, either give Star 102.1 a rival and bring the heritage format of AC back, or try Country and challenge Cumulus's Texas Country 2 step or give iHeart a rival for Lone Star 92.5 or The Eagle or just do a 80s-early 2000s version of classic rock targeted to Gen X and Millennial listeners who grew up on Hair bands, Thrash Metal, Pop Punk, Grunge, post grunge and nu-metal while Lone Star can play stuff from when the boomers and early Gen X listeners were growing up on the stuff from the 60s and 70s as well as some 80s rock.

I come to this site to learn and talk about things going on in DFW radio. I have visited a number of forums on radio and other topics over the years that at times are teeming with activity only to see them die off as people lose interest for one reason or another. This particular forum seems to be doing that nose-dive in activity. When people don't post, people don't reply, they don't visit, and some who might have posted no longer visit because there's nothing to read. It feeds on itself and kills off the forum. I hope that does not happen here.

KVIL was doomed even before the consolidation put the final nail into its coffin. The only way an Alt will work in this market is by leaning Active or leaning AAA, but KVIL has always leaned pop. Dallas listeners have plenty of places to hear pop. They won't go to KVIL to hear it.

Even the New York forum has its slow days. Forum activity depends on whether or not something is going on in your market.

Well KKDA-FM hired someone to replace Michael Shawn and Rudy Rush......but no one really cares about Black Formatted radio here.....
