We have all discussed the obvious "inadequacies" with the book in State College especially due to the slim number of diaries which go out. I think especially with this recent release of numbers for State College, its apparent that the system is greatly fouled as it seems Hot 103's audience just vanished into nothingness.
I would have thought that with Hot flipping to Qwk Rock 103.1, obviously that sent the faithful listeners of the station scrambling elsewhere and in fact there were 2 CHR choices to pick from between B94.5 and G101; yet no station really saw a spike. Listeners didn't seem to turn up as flocking to 3-WZ, Lite, Froggy or elsewhere.
One could try and argue that CHR no longer has any appeal, but the fact is Hot 103 had decent numbers when they were on the air and CHR seemed to fair well in Altoona with Hot 100 tying for 2nd place with WALY...so where did Hot's Audience go? From the results of the book...looks like a lot of listeners just disappeared.
Perhaps a few got Ipods or satellie radio...but hardly everyone...so what makes State College's book so different from the others? Someone should have gotten a spike....but no one did (unless all of Hot's old audience is listening to Joe-FM) and I find that rather tough to believe.
Just yet another reason to think that the book cannot be used as an accurate reflection of anyone's tastes in the marketplace.
