Where Does Clear Channel Tri-State News Originate?

I had the very rare occasion to listen to my local Clear Channel cluster of stations in Sussex County yesterday during afternoon drive. While flipping back and forth between 2 of them, I noticed a recorded newscast that aired on both stations about 20-minutes apart. The lead story was about a Monmouth University poll showing that the gap between NJ's two candidates for Governor was closing. The only problem was the news anchor referred to the school as " Mon-Mouth' " placing greater emphasis on the 2nd syllable and giving the wrong pronunciation of the 2nd syllable. Anyone from NJ should know it's pronounced " Mon' -muth " even if the school and county are not local to Sussex County.

So since it's obviously not produced locally (or even in NJ for that matter) where does that newscast come from?

Aahhhh..reminds me when national media butchered Binghamton when the ACA shooting occured back in April, in addition to NBC's typo of WNBF 1290 where they had "WNDF." At this rate, there is almost no "live and local" coverage.

There's more to it than that. In this case, there are local jocks and local Program Directors. Apparently it's just the news that's outsourced for what I would presume are cost savings measures. And I fully understand the need to consolidate operations and save money where ever possible too. These two stations are music intensive FM's...news is not the primary focus. But if you're running a local station and you've got local people on board, shouldn't there be some quality control to make sure the "non-local" stuff is done right? It's not like mispronouncing the name of a college in some far away market where you might not be familiar with the way the locals say it. Monmouth University shares it's name with 1 of New Jersey's 21 counties. Anyone reading the news in NJ really should know how it's said.

Someone actually has to be listening to notice that there are mispronounciations or other errors that make it to the air not just in Sussex, but at ANY station in NJ and nationally. These things "Slip through the cracks" because of the reason you stated...consolidation. One PD now-a-days is in charge of in many cases 2 or more stations and monitoring them closely apparently isn't at the top of the agenda and you and I are in agreement that it SHOULD BE. If you can't put out a solid product (which is the foundation of your whole business model as a station) then perhaps some prioritizing is in need. The problem with radio here in 2009 (one of many) is that the bar is SO LOW that just being on the air with sub-standard talent is considered a success/achievement... a travesty to the industry. As more and more AM (& FM) stations go dark, so too do the "training grounds" for the next wave or generation of talent. Therein lies the reason why we hear the *talent* that we do...no knock again CC, it applies nationally.

I believe that there news comes out of Poughkeepsie or Syracuse so clearly its no fault of the staffs in those locations but as you stated on the local level these things should be caught so that its a ONE TIME occurrence.

AHhh I Digress... Carry on...

So their idea of news is the same as NJ101.5 - there's a new Gannett poll released and it says...listen at 8 am on 101.5 that's often
their lead story.

It was posted a while back that the news for the clear channel stations in Boston originates at WLW in CINCINNATI! I wouldn't be surprised if that's where the NJ news comes from now too.
