Where has Bill Hemmer gone ?

Sitting out his non-complete clause.

Remember a few months ago CNN announced that Hemmer was being replaced by Miles O'Brien? The reason was the typical " Hemmer is exploring other options" which translated into english means the guy was shown the front door.

I read that CNN wanted to make him the main reporter of the Washington Bureau and he felt it was a demotion so he asked to be let out of his contract.

Let's see if he winds up at Fox or MSNBC.<P ID="signature">______________

They wanted better chemistry on American Morning, I always liked him, so they tried to reassign him. From what I've read, his non-compete runs out in September and I assume he will be a hot free agent.

Just hope he doesn't join the parade of rightist air heads at Fox--unless Fox would dump Shepherd Smith. He has no chemistry, either--except with himself.

You know now that I think about this it makes sense.

I used to go to NYC a lot and I would stand outside of the AOL Center and you can see IN and watch the anchors and they put a TV on the outside.

During the commerical breaks all the people would be talking to each other and Bill would be just sitting there looking at some papers and no one talked to him

I always wondered about why that was.

I guess no one like him

LOL

Hemmer Quits News; Joins Fox News Channel Instead

> Since Bill Hemmer is no longer on CNN , where is he now????
> Anyone know?

Bill Hemmer has retired from his journalism career, instead accepting a position as a weekday anchor and correspondent with FNC. Hemmer says he is thrilled to be working for the channel. At the very least, he might get a free trip to Aruba out of it.

Bill Hemmer Joins FOX News Channel

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 19, 2005--Bill Hemmer has joined FOX News Channel (FNC) as a weekday anchor and correspondent, announced Roger Ailes, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of FOX News.

In making the announcement, Ailes said, "Bill is a journalist of great integrity, and his strong reporting and anchoring skills will prove beneficial to the entire FOX News team."

Hemmer added, "I am thrilled to be joining FOX News Channel, and I welcome the opportunity to be a part of the nation's leading cable news network."

For the past 10 years Hemmer was an anchor/correspondent at CNN, where he most recently co-hosted American Morning. While there, Hemmer also anchored CNN Live Today and CNN Tonight. Earlier this year, he reported live from Rome and Vatican City on the death of Pope John Paul II, and in 2004 he covered both the Democratic and Republican conventions and served as one of CNN's anchors on election night.

In 2003, Hemmer traveled to Kuwait to report on the ongoing tensions with Iraq, and stayed on-site to cover Operation Iraqi Freedom when the war began. Prior to that, he reported live from Jerusalem on the tension in the Middle East, and earlier was stationed at Ground Zero in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Hemmer also reported live from Tallahassee, Florida for 37 straight during the election 2000 recount.

During his stint at CNN, Hemmer also provided extensive coverage of Hurricanes Ivan (2004), Jeanne (2004) and Floyd (1999). In 1998, he spent more than a month covering the crisis in Kosovo. While there, he reported on the aerial bombing missions from Aviano Air Base in Italy, the refugee crisis from Skopje, Macedonia and the latest NATO developments from Brussels.

A recipient of several awards and honors, including a 1996 Emmy Award, Hemmer began his career as a weekend sports anchor for WCPO-TV (CBS) in Cincinnati. He is a graduate of the University of Miami in Ohio and is a native of Cincinnati.

FOX News Channel (FNC) is a 24-hour general news service covering breaking news as well as political, entertainment and business news. For more than three years, FNC has been the most watched cable news channel in the nation and currently presents eleven out of the top twelve programs in cable news. Owned by News Corp., FNC is available in more than 85 million homes.

Well, it's certainly true that journalistic skills and good reporting aren't exactly the hallmark at FNC, so it's somewhat disheartening to find that's where he landed. As long as he's there, though, it'll be fun to see Shepherd Smith and a couple more people feel the heat knowing that a capable working journalist (Hemmer)is coming through the door. It's getting old watching Smith preach the on camera gospel to what few ultra-right followers he has left.

There is no journalism on Fox News Channel. They repeat what others have already reported and then just give their opinion about it. It's lousy journalism because these people never seem to actually break anything, do any non-agenda investigative reporting, or remember the story isn't about themselves, it's about the story. It was no surprise Fox's only major investigative piece was a virulenty anti-UN expose of the Oil for Food scandal. That was a few hundred million, but they avoided the far bigger missing eight billion dollars story out of Iraq.

I predict Hemmer will suddenly start spouting a lot of conservative viewpoints within weeks of landing at Fox. I suspect a lot of these people don't actually believe some of what they say courtesy of the Morning Ailes memo, but they need to fit in. I am not even sure the old MSNBC Hair Guy John Gibson actually believes, as he reported the other week, that France should have gotten the Olympics so the London bombers would have attacked Paris instead of London and then nobody would care.

There are two reasons to watch FNC: to see the latest anchor hairstyles and hair care products, and the excellent car chases.
