Where have all the great jingles gone? Long time passing. Where have all lyrics gone? Long time ago. Imagination on the air, killed by shotguns everywhere. Remember when radio was fun?
If everyone starting moving toward jingles again, the prices would be lower. More money coming in to the jingle companies = less money required from each station buying jingles. Simple economics.
The problem I see more and more is not the use of jingles, but the production of crap jingles! If I here " quality, service selection " or " friendly, knowledgeable staff " in another jingle I'll.....tune out my own radio stations! Geez man! Jingles work because they're catchy. Now days it's just more radio wallpaper made with the same annoying keyboard samples they used in the 90's! I HATE keyboard horns!
Sorry..you guys were talking about STATION jingles. LOL Well I think they have a higher burn factor and the length is another issue. Less is MORE! LOL I host a PM drive show I like to call the "Shut Up & Rock Show". Not that I don't talk at all, but it's a pretty cool alternative to the other rock stations around here trying to do an AM show in the PM. While they're jockin' I'm rockin'! Listeners aren’t tuning in to sing along with our jingles, they want to rock! That's what I give them. Formats like AC, country and others I think make good use of jingles in this market. So I can't say that "no one uses them". I do know that once they buy a package, that's the package they use until the station changes format! LOL
