Where have the salaries gone?

Simple. In the 90's radio became unregulated for the most part. Lowry Mays, Mel Karmizan, Sumner Redstone and others were allowed to buy hundreds of stations paying 2, 3 4 and more X the real price of radio stations. Now the notes are coming due and these companies want out of a business THEY screwed up much like the greedy sob's that screwed up the mortgage companies and lending institutions.

Question: Would you buy a station for 3.5 million + that billed less than a million annually?

After Randy Michaels screwed up CC walked away with millions and yes he was laughing all the way to the Bank. He's just one of many that have squandered your salaries.

Randy Michaels does not belong on your list of villans, he was among the first victims of Mark the Inept who set about systematically eleminating the broadcasters from first corporate management and eventually down to the local level and replaced them with salespeople and MBAs. Randy understood that the actual value of the radio stations was not the properties but in fact the people. Mark the Inept (and his clones in the other big consildators) see people as expenses to be eliminated.

Randy Michaels created and implemented the infamous Voice tracking with it's wonderful PROFET system. Don't let him fool you into thinking he's a "Broadcaster" first. Ain't so. And IMHO I think Randy was instrumental in bringing no talented DJ's to FM Talk. The talented DJ's went to AM Talk via Politics.

Basically, Randy Michaels is OVERRATED. That's why he jumps from one company to the other.

Before Randy Michaels became part of CC they were a cheap company, but he brought it to a new level. When they finally realized that he was giving their already bad rep an even worse one he got the boot. Of course there was more going on behind the scenes to hasten his departure, but that could fill paragraphs.

Randy Michaels certaintly did some creative things in radio. However not all for the good. Yes CC was a small but profitable company. They ran a very tight ship. You might say they were cheap but not as cheap as some back in the 70s/80s. I remember working for many mom and pop stations back then and back then CC paid better. Wasn't alot but they DID pay better.

When Randy took over he took his brand of programming (for better or worse) and put it on most CC stations. I was there and all i know is Randy Michaels was a shady man at best. I'm suprised he didn't wind up running one of the failed banks ;D
