Where in NYC Can a Country Station Be Heard Reliably?

I was in southern Brooklyn recently, and heard Thunder Country surprisingly well on their fairly new 106.3 WKMK frequency. Further to the north it was drowned out by a station with religious programming (probably a pirate). I would expect that Thunder can be received considerably better on Staten Island.
Are there other parts of the five boroughs that can receive this or other country stations reliably? I'm not referring to occasional reception during certain atmospheric conditions or times of the year.

Country Road, 106.7-HD2, though WLTW makes no mention of it on their website.

Unfortunately no. (since so few people have HD radios I don't even consider that an option)

106.3 should be able to be heard in the entire city if it weren't for the illegal pirates.
Unfortunately I do not think that is true. WFAF from northern Westchester is heard on the frequency in the Bronx, and other northern areas.

If we're going to include HD2 stations (why not), what about WALK HD2? Can that country station be received in perhaps eastern Queens? It comes in well in parts of Westchester county.

It would be very hard to pull in WKMK in Manhattan because the signal is already pretty weak, plus you have the interference from all the tall buildings. I used to live in Jersey City right by the Hudson River and I could barely pull in 106.3 and I'm pretty sure it was because of all the tall buildings blocking the signal. I had a similar issue when I was driving through Newark - 106.3 was barely listenable.

When atmospheric conditions are favorable (usually during summer evenings), you may be able to hear 96.1 WCTO from Allentown PA, 92.5 WXTU from Philadelphia, 107.3 WPUR from Atlantic City, or even 99.9 WWFG(?) from Ocean City, MD.

Conceivably in the northeastern Bronx or coastal Queens, you might be able to pick up Kicks 105 out of Danbury (faintly) but if you go too far south or west WDHA will dominate and then there's always the possibility of pirates. In the extreme northwestern part of the Bronx (by the river) you might be able to get 94.3 out of Poughkeepsie/Kingston although K-104.7 has a much stronger signal and less co-channel interference.

I'd say your best bet to hear country in the city would be somewhere by the beach.

I do live in the Lower East Side and when in the car I can get a faint signal of WKMK, especially starting at around 5pm. So far, I like the choice of music they play. I'm not all that familiar with Country/Western. I knew that 103.5 had a country format but my mind was focused elsewhere at the time.

Not really true. Lower Manhattan, southern Brooklyn and Staten Island shouldn't have much issue getting 106.3 were it not for the pirates but all other areas of the 5 boroughs do.
The pirates on 106.3 are primarily in Brooklyn and do not reach most of Manhattan. Thunder 106.3 does not have a reliable signal and can't be picked up at all in most of the city.

i got sirius radio because nyc had no country music and i needed my country music. the best thing that i did. also, you get howard!

I've been able to receive WRWD, 1370 AM when in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. Located near Ellenville, this is the AM simulcast of the popular country station WRWD 107.3 FM in Poughkeepsie. I have not listened to it often enough there to know whether it can be heard in Riverdale on a regular basis. And I believe it is a daytime only signal.

For some reason people in radio around here think COUNTRY would not work in NYC."Tristate".....Country would fail here.....same old argument.....and they always compare....with 1035 when it was country .....oh it would not work blah blah blah.......Hot top 40 Country with top 40 style jocks....would win......it would bill......it would own the life group that everybody seems to think would not listen in the NYC area ...Whoever does it will be successful ..I have a feeling that Thunder 106 is really going to pop in the ratings in Middlesex....they have Billboards everywhere and Country is much needed.

I can answer for the Bronx since I live there. I never even HEARD of Kicks 105. Living in Riverdale (as extreme NW as you can go in NYC), I can't get 94.3 from Kingston but K-104 comes in beautifully (when there isn't a pirate hogging up the signal! ). Unless there's a country station on the AM dial that comes through at night, The Bronx is out of luck.

Agreed.

When WPDH in Poughkeepsie was simulcast on 106.3, I was able to hear that over anything that came out of Central NJ.

WKMK can barely be heard in Newark. There's no way you'd be able to hear it in the Bronx unless maybe you happened to be in some hi-rise building facing south.
