Where in the world is the Q-105 van?

Something you guys in New London aren't telling us? Why was the Q-105-mobile found driving east towards Cape Cod on I-195 outside of Providence, RI?

We're talking just over the state line in Southeastern Massachusetts here (Somerset, MA to be exact)... I'm pretty sure we can't even get Q-105 on a normal day... Besides, with gas prices the way they are, I'm surprised Citadel New London would authorize a 100 mile joy ride... What gives? Any ideas?
 
Somehow I lost my reply as I was typing it so if this shows up twice, that will explain it.

A couple of thoughts from personal experience about station vehicles being out of the normal listening area:

A. Some stations do promotions at out of area concerts and other venues since a number of ticket holders may come from their area.

B. Station vehicles are sometimes used for non-programming, non-promotional trips such as the station engineer driving to an vendor in a nearby state to pick up a urgently needed or large part for the transmitter.

C. Station vehicles are often used to shuttle staff between sister stations in a region, or to pick up bands at the airport or to take contest winners to out of the area concerts.

D. Some stations still allow personal use, when a staff member is moving for instance. In years past, I've seen a WHCN vehicle in NYC, a WWYZ remote truck in Providence, RI and a WCCC Hummer in Poland Springs, Maine!

Ever wonder where the old WHCN walruses went?

This thread made me think of something else I saw out of place from a radio station. I noticed earlier this summer that the old WHCN humungous inflatable walrus and walrus mascot costume are both now being used by the New Britain Rock Cats at their games, with the WHCN logo strategically covered up.

Well, they ran out early on thier bottled water in the station and since the next scheduled delivery was still a long way off, they went to get more themselves (just kidding!)

I'm sorry, it's too early in the morning to expect better from me.
 
Very simple answer.
Q-105 is part of the Citadel Broadcasting group.
Citadel has stations throughout New England as well
as the United States. In fact they have stations in
your area of interest R.I., Providence!
In fact you mentioned Citadel in your post, but you
never checked their website for stations owned!

TPO is correct. i've worked for a few hartford stations in the past and have driven station vehicles to boston and nyc and other out-of-range areas for various random reasons ranging from helping employees move, pick up artists for station events at airports, etc.

what the Q-105 folks were up to is a mystery unless someone who works there reads this board, but my guess is they were doing one of these things. either that or the van was stolen. hah! (hopefully it wasnt)

Funny Story

While in College my friend Tom Graves who is now the afternoon news guy at WATR in Waterbury interned for WRCH Lite 100.5 FM. One time he was driving through Hartford with the van and two cops pulled him over and asked him if he had any promotional items from their Pillow Talk Show.

Did anyone check to see if "Lich" was inside the costume ?

Couldn't be, I've seen the mascot at the games....he was normal height
