Their spread over two stations, The Beat and Jammin 94.1. The Beat is very similar to the old KTFM.

The beat is similar to the old KTFM? Do you even listen to the radio? Where did you come up with that? There is no way in hell does the beat sound like the old KTFM. You do not hear pop queens on the beat. You do not hear boy bands. You do not hear crappy "freestyle" music. You do not hear dance music. And those are just a few examples. I completely disagree.

Well, let's see. Gary Guthrie (trigger black) is doing imaging for a Mass. station, and is putting together a new record label. Tony Raven works for Shook, building tv remove equipment. Ken Noble hosts a morning drive smooth jazz show in Denver, Hector Reyes is selling time for television. Sonny Melendrez is on KHAL-AM with a talk show, Tony Dale has a conservative talk show in North Carolina, Barney Stone is a respected journalist now... oh, wait. You weren't asking about the original crews...sorry, I don't know where the last KTFM crew went

Well as far as Dmaq. He Just left to Dallas and is working for the Tom Joyner tv show and does stuff with CeCe Winans. He also has a non-profit organization named Groove City Collective. This organization helps up and coming poets get noticed. He also is still working on his internet radio. Now as for Bennieben he is working as an Asst. Audio Engineer for a tv ministry in SA and started a small production company named Fuzion Productions. He will soon have a recording studio and start a label in SA. Dmaq and Bennieben are working together on a project which will be on track within the year. It is known as All Saints Radio. It will hopefully be sindicated. It is going to be a r&b,Christian Rap Hip Hop show Stay tuned. I wonder if anyone remembers Larry Chase. He is part of the old school ktfm. He did the 10pm to 2am show better known as the love zone. He also works at a tv ministry as the radio producer with Bennieben. Ok now let me respond to the who cares comment. It is obvious that Mr.Newschool has no respect for the old school who intern helped open doors for new school. I am not ragging on new school I have very good friends that are new school but they understand the word respect. Almost everyone involved with The Beat and Jammin are from Ktfm. So it seems to me that new school needs old school because they are trained properly. You always need knowledge before you become big so if your smart you always learn from the ones who were there and incorporate into the now.

get er done benny!!!never forgetpaaaaaaaarrrrttttttyyyyyyy ppppppaaaaaattttttrrrrroooollllll!!!!!

You know Bennie had a good point about respect and all but there has to be a time when you just need to get over it. I swear people on these boards praise KTFM so much yet forget how much it was a tear jerker to listen to. Allow me to bash on ALL three phases of the old KTFM. Phase 1 Hot 103/ Beginning of 102.7 days. Freestyle crap just made me sick to my stomache. And KTFM sure the hell had a lot of it playing, hell even on their jingle package. People seem to like that phase the best. Why? I have no clue. Phase 2 The Drex, Hoey D, Henrieta days. This is when it started to go downhill. They literally had no competition and could get away with playing pretty much whatever they wanted... and they did. N Suck, Brittney Spears... back in those days THANK GOD I owned a cd player in my truck. Phase 3 Enter 98.5 and the Wild 1027, 1027 KTFM, The NEW 102.7 KTFM....(you get the idea) The Beat came in and destoryed KTFM. Why? Well I hate to point fingers but..... (A PD WHO DIDNT KNOW A DAMN THING!) Inexperienced staff, bad music slection, and constant format change was ultimatly the death of KTFM. R.I.P. you had a good run while it lasted but a select few messed that all up. Not to meantion competition that made a MAJOR dent in ratings while having a VERY short playlist. (Beat at first had very little music) and also the bitter people of San Antonio didnt help any as well. Back to what I said about respect. That is great and all. But in my opinion even thought KTFM technically died back in late 2003, to the city of San Antonio it was years before that. Respect... yeah but you people need to just stop with all this praise.-Just Being Real-MindOnDaRadio247

Whether you or anyone else on this board hated KTFM, it remained a Top station for many years. Infinity/CBS Radio F-up and were unable to compete with the Beat. Too many identities and playing Hip Hop/Dance one week and the following week playing Top 40 didn't help. As for the teen music, many station were across the nation were doing the same. Those groups/artists were hot. Did you expect them not to play them because it wasn't to your liking? As for Drex, KTFM had the top morning show even beating out the Beat and KISS.

I am glad you think respect is a good thing. But as far as getting over it you are right only to the affect that it is another time and era. I do agree. Now as far as KTFM going down hill from your time frame I do not agree. Ktfm was a station that held this market way before Drex and company along with sister station KTSA. Everything did start when they switched to wild. There were personal issues going on with the pd and with the company. Instead of staying on track they went into panic mode which was the downfall. Every radio station needs to play what is popular in the streets. Some research does help but you need to talk to the people. Ktfm had their own research dept which called people within the city. The moment Infinity took over things changed. People know what is popular and what is not. It sounds like you did not like the music being played, that is your preference. This city from back in the day has always been a rock city and it will continue to be even if the beat is number one. It all boils down to revenue. Ktfm held the revenue and the ratings. The Beat is doing great in ratings but in revenue thats a whole different ballgame. Back in the day Power 93 was KTFM'S competition the only reason that Power went off the air is because they couldn't sell advertisement, even though they had the best ratings in the market at the time the statiion was still sold. I also agree that KTFM had no competition. Just like the Beat, but if they are in a comfort zone the same could happen to them. Competition is good only if done right.

tell em bennie....and the best part is....ktfm made hella money doing it! a lot of money..ask your old scholl ae'sthe beat isnt even making a quarter of what ktfm was billing anyyear!look at miller kaplan...the beat finally broke into the top 5 billing stations last year....took a while huh!from someone who was there good times and bad....evryone from ktfm has turned out successful at something in this life.face it as we all do..all good things have to come to an end! and it sure was fun!!!i am sure the good times outweigh the bad and there are no regrets (except dayparted hip hop)mindonradio247...dont be mad you were not a part of the legacy, but we all know you were listening! Shaking my head saying "told ya so" Listening? I think not. Just watching. So dont come on here saying how I was jealous because that is far from the truth.

you seem so focused on how no other station will be able to top the "legacy" of ktfm and how other people on this board wished they were apart of the old ktfm or its legacy. ktfm was a great station back in the day, and that's it. it's time to move on to the present.

Yo, I'm out here in Colorado Springs!!! I'm in the Air Force, just made E8, and I'm getting my master's on May 19th. I do some work at the radio station on the Air Force Academy. The old crew had a lot of fun in those days. Can't forget Big Dog, Ross Knight, Bo Corona, Anna Deharro, Robin Flores & Wally C. (rest in peace). Shake them haters off Benny Ben!!! :DEddie B.

I couldnt agree more with you Cathy.

Well It's about time you chim in on this nikki. I was waiting for you to finally say something. Look. like she said moving on is correct KTFM no longer exists. All I am saying is that respect the fact that there was a KTFM. Now the Beat is big dog. I listen all the time. I just have a problem when someone talks about the buisness or station as if they were involved. When in fact it is only an opinion. People have that right but at least let others say their peace without trying to come back. Nikki was also part of the old /new crew. So I respect her opinion. We are friends and always will be. Yo! What's up Eddie B.

Ya know I believe that the Beat is just as cookie cutter as Z or Mix. It is just that they were the first on it (important not to be a biter)in that format, and there is no real alternative for their listeners.Z and Mix remind me a lot of Y and KJ. Kind of like the food at Mcdonalds it all tastes the same, and it tastes bad.I could care less about these 12+ numbers, but I will say this.Any CHR that can't dominate in Teens, is probably going to have problems 18-34 as well. There is a hipness factor involved.Z should give up the old Calls/Positioning statements is all that matters idea-Pre Drake Chenault there. sheeesh.Mix still has some of the worst signal and processing in the market.Even if they did go local and High profile personality...it is hard to listen to.You can work on the frosting, but if the cake is bad who cares?Hmmmmmmmmmm the old KTFM sounds pretty good when you think about it....True the # of stations around back then was less, but I don't think the stations that are being boasted about in here are what I wouldconsider harsh competition. The beat (format first) being the only exception.KTFMwas personalitywas localwas visablewas funwas reliablewas not cookie cuttercreated it's own personalitiescreated it's own eventsreached all demos (except maybe older males)hmmmmmmmmmmm....What station in town does half of that now.The beat is well executed, but far from Original. You would need a lot of promotions money, a visible morning team, and all Personality jocks, to beat themNo one would do that. That is real radio, and real radio costs too much for the corporate owners. Besides only one station can be thenumber one station. So let's go for # 6 or # 7 and see if we can make up the difference in sales. No one outside of the building really understands ratings anyways. So just don't teach the clients and we will ok.KONO and the KISS morning show (not my taste) are probably the only two personality based radio elements on the air right now.The rest is the same crap you could hear on any similiar station anywhere in the USA.I like Wild in SF, and Power in Miami. But most of radio sounds bad at best, and unlistenable at worst. Some in here have said ruling the streets is the way to win. Ruling the streets is about 1/5th of winning, and no matter what you do inthe streets, if the station itself is boring...IT WILL NOT WIN.Oh and another one of my favorite things to set straight...Clubs....The percentage of people who go (even in SA) is far too low to use as a determinant of a station's music. In other words...more people never go to a club than do. If the majority are not in the club than why would you base your music(research-HA) on what works there.Club feels are good for an occasional add or extra, not to move the station. In fact The Station should move the crowd at the club in the direction it wants to go!(the beat has done this)WAKE UPThere is no more CREATIVE radio, just a lot of lip service from people trying to keep the minimum wage help intrested enough to keep working.Bring back the overnighter, and the weekenders!Bring back REAL PRIZES!Bring back Personality!Bring back breaking New Music in your market!Bring back promotional budgets!bring back the listeners.NOT going to happen...so either get an IPOD, or listen to the jukeboxes on the air.But PUHLLLLLLLLLEASE stop talking like anyone is doing real radio...It makes my ear bleed.
