Where is Chris Baker these days????

Any info on where Chris is these days?
I use to listen to him at work and on my way home. If he is on a station now that streams I'll listen again.

I thought about saying that but Chris working at wal-mart is slightly less believable than Loc or Outlaw Dave working there.

Chris fits KSEV's format perfectly so I wonder how long before he shows up there. His show was great at first when it was more humor based but at some point it became the Rush Limbaugh wrap up show which is right up KSEV's alley.

Didn't Roger Gray say something about waiting out his no compete by doing the show in Dallas than simulcasting back to Houston? I am sure Chris could work something like that out if he were in a hurry to get back on the air.

No apology needed. I've been dismayed reading about talk in my hometown. All the comments about the bottom line and bloodless business decisions may well be accurate as far as the business of radio goes. A dollar has no conscience. And I know the lopsided nature of talk today pleases roughly half the population immensely. And the other side is ordering XM so they can get Air America. Pretty sad that neither one wants to here real give and take on a daily basis, accessible on terrestrial radio. That kind of fun and passion is why a lot of us got into the business back in the dark ages (for me, in 1970). Now, it's like hearing half of a phone argument. You wonder what the other guy is saying that has this end so infuriated. Oh well, I'll toddle off to the old broadcasters home now. Merry Christmas, everybody.

That's funny, Roger, I thought when Jay50k was adroitly saying "My apologize to Mr. Gray" -- I thought he was talking about Pat. I hate inserting little smiley-faces so I'll just say Merry Christmas! And to you too, Chuck, my man. Oh, and to all of you -- Merry Christmas! (Remembering Mike O)

Merry Christmas guys !

Since Chuck was kind enough to start the greetings, let me jump in and wish all my friends and colleagues in this crazy business a happy and joyous Christmas.

I'm wondering something guys. You would think that since we are all so smart and brilliant, we could all find better paying ways to make a living. My own answer to that is that I've never wanted to do anything else.

The joy I get from working in radio compensates for the low pay and the odd hours.

And furthermore....

(I posted that one before I was finished with it)

and let me also say the biggest reason I've stayed in this business for as long as I have, 42 years and counting, is the privilige of associating with some of the best people in the world -- radio people.

Happy Christmas to all of you !

FilioScotia, my hats off to you for your 42 years. You have my respect. I agree; I've met some really great folks in this business, and a few of them have been become good friends. A lot folks drift in and drift out leaving their mark, some memorable and some not. Most of all, it has been a lot of fun.

One of the biggest thrills for me. was to work with people who were in this business long before me. I learned a lot from these icons, some now gone and a few still here. In addition to guys, like Arch Yancey, Joe Ford, Paul Berlin and others who were there at the beginning of Rock 'n Roll, but also, guys like Bob Stevenson Sr and his son, Bob Jr, both now gone. Bob Sr was in this business way, way back. In the past couple of years, I've worked with Paul Wishnow, the Antique man. Paul helped put KUHT Channel 8 on the air many years ago.

Yesterday, in fact, I completed editing his two hour Christmas show which will air Sunday from 1PM-3PM on KNTH. Normally, it's 'live,' however he is off on a short vacation. The guy has a lot of stories about radio and TV in Houston.

When I was the producer for the Dayna Steele Show on 97 Talk-FM (KKTL 97.1) working for Roger Gray, I met the great Steve Allen, the 1st host of the "Tonight Show" on NBC-TV.

The list is endless and too long for this forum. All in all, I wouldn't trade it for the world. I damn sure didn't have this much fun in 1970 working at UtoteM #115 on Bellaire Blvd right by the train tracks. (Its now Lil Woodrows.)

Never forget the cats who were here before you. They blazed the well traveled radio trail that many of you are traveling upon, today. You are here, because they were there when it started.

Merry Christmas, all.

not from me. c.b. is a talented guy. besides, locke has the greeters job sewn up, and outhouse dweeb is above taking any job that won't give him the sense of stardom he so desperately craves.

If you want the other side of the argument, just go to CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS, Time, Newsweek, and your local paper, -- The Chronicle or NY Times etc. Not to mention a horde of celebrities and artists. If we need a "Fairness Doctrine," it should start at the Universities, where balance is desperately needed. Am talk radio is a response to public demand. You know the rest of what I'm gonna say. Wow, how did I get so right-wingey? I used to be a hippie.

Everybody loves ya, Roger. I think you're pretty cool, too. Just had to add my $.02.

Oh, so in answer to the actual title of this thread: I saw Chris Baker at Laff Spot/ Willowbrook doing standup about 3 weeks ago. He was a riot--- very entertaining, and surprisingly, didnt go overboard on politics --- which makes him smarter than most artists--brilliant. I mean, you knew who he was, but he just didnt go "Rosie" on everybody.

I learned a lot from listening to C. Baker, and a bit from watching his standup. He's actually pretty damn intelligent, despite his "average Joe" persona, and he's a voice that should be heard.
