Where is Eric Brandon?

FORGET Eric Brandon. I would like to know where have YOU been 954 ? You haven't posted on here since the middle of April (since this board was rejuvenated). I missed your intriguing South Florida radio news and views - well most of them anyway. Are you here temporarily, or are you back for good from your extended hiatus ?

WHY did you change your User Name to that crazy long one ? Why not something simpler like RadioPages.

Good morning, Major.... I had tried to request a password several times and each time it said it had been sent, but I didn't get it. All I could think of is that I may have originally registered with my beethoven.com e-mail address, and they no longer offer e-mail service because their software was so buggy. (Worse than anything by MS.)

So I e-mailed them a few days ago, and they reset my login yesterday.

No, I didn't change my user name. They futzed around with the variables in the software. What they are displaying now was previously in the Real Name field on the old board, while 954 was my userid. In other words, if you really want to know what my real name is, you have to look at my web site, where it is displayed prominently and in the copyright notice. Logical, huh?

I was appalled to see that if you really want to know, look at my web site was displayed on every posting after the change! Looks really dumb, huh?

I plan to request that they change this, but maybe someone will read this and fix it and I won't have to e-mail support again. RadioPages is what I'd use instead, like you suggested.

Hey 954,

Well I'm glad you are back in here. I've tried my best to keep this Miami board active over the past couple of months, but sometimes it seems like I'm talking to myself in here. ???

A few of the original posters stop by for a short visit every now and then to read and reply, but then they mysteriously disappear for weeks at a time. I know you and a lot of them are hanging out elsewhere, but I didn't see much of anything substantial radio-related posted 'elsewhere', so I decided to stay here on this board where I feel at home.

I'm guessing you've caught up with the dozens of posts that have been posted on here since you disappeared on us back in April ? I see a lot of new replies from you and your crazy User Name. Hopefully the Moderator will get that changed for you. When I first saw that this morning I thought that this board was hit by a spammer !

NOW ... Let's get back at discussing and solving the problems of the radio airwaves of South Florida !

Sometimes it seems like I'm talking to myself, too.

IMHO, I have more about radio in the Miami market in my May Radio News than any board has, IMHO.

Including a picture of Footy on his last broadcast: http://RadioPages.net

Yes, I was pleased to hear about WFLL becoming Caribbean.

Otherwise, a lot of it seems like the same old stuff I've already read in the newspaper ... or elsewhere many times before.

Like how Y-100 or {fill in blank} used to be better.

YES I checked out the May edition of your fine RadioPages (now at its new domain name). I appreciated the 'Footy' segment, and I even went searching further on your fine web site for some type of Y-100 (or Footy) 33-year history page like you have for a few other radio stations. I couldn't find one. Surely you could put together something for the longest-running continuous contemporary hit music station in North America. The 'Footy' segment would be a great start !

I just read that the legendary Bob Weaver of WTVJ died yesterday. He was at WTVJ when it all started back in 1949. He was on TV for over 55 years. He was also on the radio occasionally. You should do a tribute for him on your web site for June.

Obviously, I've written more about the stations I know more about, from having been a listener.

Back when Y-100 started I was just out of college and mostly listening to WFTL and WLOD (both M-O-R) and especially classical WTMI, which was just a few years old. Only times I ever listened to Y-100 were for info for my site.

Example: I was never a WQAM fan, having stopped listening to rock & roll before moving here. So most of my WQAM content is by Bob Gordon (not yet updated) and Rick Shaw, both of whom worked at QAM in the early 1950s.

Another example: Mike Miranda wrote a great history of WGMA, the Country Giant (not yet updated). I was a WGMA fan in college, but didn't know 1/10 of what he knows.

We need an article about Y-100 by an expert. A long-time fan. Like you, Major.

Please? Maybe you can draft some other Y-100 fans to collaborate. Maybe you even have some pictures?

Sorry to hear about that.

I don't know much about Weaver The Weatherman, except that he's been around Miami TV a long time.

It's beyond the scope of a radio page, but if someone writes a tribute, I'll mention it.

Where is Majic's Chef Eric Brandon?

I still want to know... Where is Eric Brandon, formerly of WMXJ "Majic 102.7"?

73s from 954

He's probably relaxing comfortably and living the good life of retirement in his Plantation home.

For those of you who don't know Eric Brandon was let go from his midday slot at MAJIC-102.7 back during the first week of May on his 20TH anniversary date at the station. He was a victim of corporate downsizing.

Honestly I haven't heard anything else about Eric ... or Footy for that matter.

It seems on virtually all the local radio boards I visit, with few exceptions, apathy rules. Major, at least you tried answering the question as to what happend to EB. I'm thinking he's in his 40s and even if he stashed the cash away the 20 years he was at WMXJ, I'm sure he'll turn up and will hopefully do something he really wants to do. I'll keep my eyes posted here as I would love to hear how he gets on with his life.
Back to apathy. It's not just unique to South Florida but bring up a subject involving an oldies type format or the players on it and it will basicaly go ignored. There was no response to Rick Shaw's 50th anniversary in radio and in fact the number of views were almost embarrasing.
Yeah, the format is not hot or trendy and the format as we knew it really no longer exists but you would think a station like Majic 102.7 would occasionally get acknowledged for it's longevity both in format and in talent. At least they represent something different on the dial. And they have enjoyed quite a run! So many stations sound alike nowadays going after the same target audience. With Majic's new ownership, I would think EB's departure for down-sizing represents the first of many more corporate changes to come. It's totally about revenue and that's the stark reality why the format is where it is.
